I have been sitting here thinking about my New Year's resolution for 2010...I hate making them and sometimes feel like the ones I come up with are broken before they start. So- this year I am making it a point to go beyond a resolution to benefit me and create resolutions throughout the year that will give to others...here is the list I came up with...
Join in January: The month to join a worthy cause (the WWF, Sierra Club, 29 Gifts, etc.) Ensure the proceeds go to the cause the most and/or volunteer witht he organization!
Feed them February: Volunteer at a soup kitchen or donate food items to a local charity to feed the hungry.
Making March: Everyone has a talent. This month make something to give to others (baked goods, paintings, poetry...)whatever your talent- make it and give it to someone unsuspecting.
Awareness in April: The gift of awareness is inspiring. I love the causes each month here at 29 gifts because it opens my eyes to the people who need our help (example Cause+Response). This month make it your mission to become aware and support a cause new to you, then give that gift to others.
Make Space in May: Spring Cleaning anyone? Make room and give to others through the cleansing of your space.
Joy to the World in June: In summer we can get outdoors and give back to the earth. Volunteer to clean-up a highway, plant a tree, or hit the trails for clean-up. Bring joy to the earth!
Jars in July: Jars are a great way to give (and recycle!). Fill some empty jars with something someone needs (food, beads, bathroom supplies, coins, etc) then decorate them and give them away. Make them personal or make them random. I will be making one filled with the reasons I love my mother (an idea another giver had) and giving that to her as a suprise!
Ask in August: Ask one person to join the 29 Gifts movement and then ask them to ask someone they know.
Service in September: A great month to get out there and volunteer, donate, give...pick a way to serve your community.
Ouch- October! What better month to give blood than this one?
November Name Needs: When the weather starts to darken and the gloomy weather is upon us some people fall into a slump and need some extra cheer to pick them up. Name at least three people who need an extra lift and send them flowers, a card, a note, a smile...whatever you can give that may change a gloomy mood.
Daring December: The end of a year of conscious giving means going out with a bang! I dare you to give like you have never given before. Look back at the year. Now- go above and beyond any giving you have done. Start the 29 days again...just go crazy!
This is it! Anyone want to join in? I thought it was fun to make up fun names each month...maybe even create a calendar for yourself.
Happy Giving!
Here is a link to upload the calendar I created to go with this idea...in case you missed it on my addition...
