29-Day Giving Challenge

As I become more conscious of the Giving, I become more conscious of the Receiving as well!

It's interesting.  I have been struggling with the concept of receiving quite a lot in the last few months.  In this culture, we are so often taught how important it is to be self-reliant.  I am really challenging myself to both give AND receive with joy.  So far, it's feeling pretty good to let myself do both!

Yesterday I traveled about 45 minutes to visit a friend who is in a coma.  :(   It was a really good visit, though.  I talked with her, touched her and stroked her, gave her Reiki.  And I met three new friends who also came to give her love and healing energy.  I ended up feeling quite buoyed by that visit.

Later when I got home, my housemate (a sweet, caring and generous woman) offered to buy me a new bra.  That may sound like a strange offer, but I had a lumpectomy in August and a good strong supportive bra is essential afterwards.  I lost a couple inches and my bras have not been quite supportive enough.  So this was a tremendous gift. And I said, "Thank you!"  I didn't belabor it with "Are you sure?  Really?" etc. like I used to.

As Barb reminded me, we all need help/support sometime.

Today I treated a friend to lunch.  He's been without income for a very long time.  He is fighting foreclosure on his home.  But after lunch we went to the dollar store to buy oil for my car and he bought it for me.  I let him.  I think it was important for him to do something.

So, in addition to learning how to receive, you will clearly see that the other lesson here is:

THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEONE WHO IS MORE IN NEED THAN ME.

Also, THERE ARE REALLY WONDERFUL PEOPLE IN THE WORLD.

Thank you all for being some of them!!!

Blessings to each of you,

Cindy

Thank you Cindy~ Great points made here...

Cool Cindy. You are so right about everything. When I am offered something I make an effort to say yes as saying "no, are you sure" etc robs them of the good feelings of giving. No one would offer if they didn't want to :-)
