29-Day Giving Challenge

This is just a totally feel good resource. For those of you with an iPhone there is a free application called Daily Good. Volunteers find wonderful stories of giving all around the world and post it to the application. It has three sections, Quote of the Day, Fact of the Day, and Be the Change.

Today's example is - Quote of the Day: "The act of compassion begins with full attention" - Daniel Goleman; the Fact of the Day is a wonderful story about a school on the outskirst of Las Vegas that feeds and clothes its students and helps their families as much as possible; and Be the Change is: "Pay closer attention for those around you."

Enjoy!

Cool. I will download the Daily Good app right now. I love this.
This sounds so neat! Will check it out! :o) Thanks!
Yeah! It took me a few times to realize that if you click the text in any section you can read the related article or other information provided as there are no links listed. Hope you like it.
Sounds great! Thanks Kendra!
thanks for this -- I've downloaded & am enjoying today's quote of the day from George Eliot: "Wha do we live for if not to make life less difficult for each other?"
Thank you, this is a wonderful mantra to live by!! I believe in this quote and the actions which make love give birth to Love.

Sorry to say/notice I've had the opposing philosophy recently, from another, who does not live/feel this way regarding the friendship, once evolved of sharing, so much goodwill and trust. One has said, "mine is ours". Another has shown, 'theirs is theirs' and wants more still (than this source can presently give), as with recession/business in a slump and spirit temporarily alone and weakened.

This is sad for my mind & heart... My gift (for myself this time) in this instance will be forgiving the hoarder. Some are sicker than others. Sorry for the bummer!
For what it's worth, not a 'bummer' -- but pointing to precisely what this practice helps us to examine... where do our hearts close, & what triggers more & less open-hearted giving?

I'm guessing your friend was in a tough spot, really wanting to trust that they will be OK when everything shakes out. Sometimes what we have to give others is not as much as they would like. It doesn't necessarily mean that I don't have another carrot to give to my friend (there is one right there in the fridge) -- but that I don't have another carrot my heart will happily give. (I want to honor the limitations of my heart & not push myself to give away more carrots than I want to)

I guess when I read "forgiving the hoarder" -- I imagine you are still holding on to the interaction, still unhappy about being asked for more than you can happily give?

I can't say that I'm ALWAYS in a place to live to make life less difficult for others, nor do I want to place such heavy demands on myself (or others). Last week, for example, I was depleted. The best I had to offer the world, & in particular those close to me, was retreat & receiving offers of nurturing.

I /did/ clash w/ a friend of whom I had asked more than they had to give. It was painful for both of us. They responded with push-back. Which led me to just ask for more. When both of us could get perspective, it was quickly resolved.
So sorry for the change in the "other". Over the years, have been faced with similar issue which caused alot of emotional conflict and distress. Now when in a situation like this, I do my "AFR" routine. A for acceptance..getting to a place when you accept that the "problem, situation, etc" will not change regardless of what I do or try, I accept it. F is for forgiveness...I forgive myself for any part I may have had, forgive the other party. R is for release...I sit down, get quiet and "release" whatever I had been holding about the problem. It is amazing how this cleanses the soul. Blessings for you for showing concern.

Awesome Kendra! Thanks....

Thank you for recommending this! I'm going to download right now :)
