29-Day Giving Challenge

Many of our 29 Gift members were friends with Lubabat Scotland. Lubabat passed away April 3, 2011 and many of us are mourning her loss. This post is in loving memory of Lubabat, to celebrate her life.We would like to remember and honor Lubabat Scotland, a member who made a difference and left a great impression on many hearts. Below you will find a few excerpts taken from her pages. Her page will not be deleted, but left as a memorial, and her blogs and discussions may be reviewed by all who wish.

A little more about Lubabat for all of you...

She joined 29 Gifts on April 23rd 2009. This is from her page:

Why I'm choosing to give:

I am choosing to give daily because it is my passion. I LOVE giving, and I always have. Unfortunately I wasn't doing it as much as I was thinking about doing it. Now I am committed to daily, conscious giving. It's something that I intend to be a part of my life, for the rest of my life. I am forever grateful to Cami and Mbali for 29 Gifts. It has put me on the path that I wanted to be on.
What I'd most like to receive:
I would most like to receive all of the gifts that the Universe (God) has for me.
About me:
I was "blessed" with Multiple Sclerosis and have been living with it since the mid '90s. I consider it a blessing because it helped me figure out what was really important in my life. For me that's family, creating and giving. Now I focus my time and energy on those things, and I am the happiest I've ever been even though I live with health challenges.
Update: I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer in August 2009. My intital reaction was shock and fear, but I quickly decided to focus my attention on what makes me happy, and that's giving. I think it has made all the difference in my attitude through this journey.

On June 25th, 2009 Lubabat's blog:

I haven't been blogging every day, but I am still committed to giving daily! Since joining this site I have become aware of so many people doing good things, and have been inspired to do my own little project. It's called Operation Smiley Face. Basically it's just me on a mission to make people smile with small acts of kindness. As a part of this mission I am doing a fun and FREE give away.

On August 9th, 2009 Lubabat's blog:

Last Monday I got some tough news. After being admitted to the hospital, and having numerous tests performed we found out that I have Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer. Once the shock started to wear off I quickly realized that in order for me to get through this I couldn't focus on my grief and disbelief. That I would instead keep my attention on giving and that's what I have been doing. During my 9 day hospital stay I made a point to give something everyday. It was usually something like remembering, and using, the names of everyone that attended to me from the drs, nurses, techs, cleaning personnel etc. Whenever someone walked in my room (even in the middle of the night to take vitals or draw blood) I made a commitment to greet them with a big 'ol "Hello" and a smile.
I also had the opportunity to give away some of my cross stitched smiley faces.

They were a big hit with the nurses and other staff. I didn't have enough completed to give everyone one but I am working on more and will be dropping them off at the hospital this week. This experience has further convinced me that giving is really a gift to the giver. It makes you feel empowered especially when everything else seems to be out of your control. I am forever grateful for 29gifts and all that it has brought to my life. I can only wonder how it will impact this new journey I'm on, but I am definitely interested to find out.

September 5th, 2009:

I gave - I met a lady online and after some corresponding she mentioned that she is going to be running in an 8k to raise money for a cure for cancer. As part of my blog Operation Smiley Face I recently designed a new smiley face pin for breast cancer awareness that I had not yet unveiled on the blog. Rather than wait til October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I decided to send her one of the pins now to wear for the run. I hope she likes it. :)

She was an extremely caring person, who would not give up. She persevered through more than her share of challenges and challenged others to smile through it all. She was a graceful and courageous woman who taught us many times over  to stay positive, don't complain, get busy, stay busy and do what you can to make others happy! She leaves not a large hole in 29 Gifts upon her departure, but an incredible wealth to anyone who was fortunate enough to participate in her life on any level. She lives on, in the hearts of so many and will be tremendously missed. It was a blessing to know you Lubabat, I know you will be on the track with me as I walk the Relay for Life. See ya then.

Lubabat's mission continues.  I just donated $29 to Operation Smiley Face and challenge anyone who can to match.

Please check out our latest Great Giveaway in honor of Lubabat.  Two very lucky members will each win a Smiley Face pin, handmade by Lubabat, donated by Cami.

I miss you, LS. You truly are a Gift.

Great challenge Mary, I started the donations with $20.00, should I add $9.00 more?

Should you choose to accept the challenge, please feel free, my love.
I messed up on this one Mary~ I mailed a donation in a card sent to the family. Is that acceptable?
You bet, Deb - it's all acceptable!
Done Mary! Now I did $29.00 too.

Thank you for this beautiful tribute to our Angel Lubabat, yesterday I have several encounters with butterflies out of the blue, and especially with a orange/yellow one with beautiful black lines, pure magic.

I keep seeing them, too, Ana.  I think of Lubabat every time.  One briefly landed on my windshield at a stop light yesterday and another continues to flitter among the azaleas outside our house.  The ones I'm seeing are mostly yellow, with a touch of orange, outlined in black - beautiful.

Hello

I did not know Lubabat but what a lovely tribute. I am inspired to read her journey and take in all that goodness, spirit and strength.
