29-Day Giving Challenge

I went to the pharmacy today to pick up my prescriptions.  The cost on them was the same but on the receipt I noticed they had only charged me for 1 of them and not both.  I pay at the pharmacy with my debit card as they keep it on record.  It is very easy for me since I don't have to pull it out every time and I can also have others pick up my prescriptions for me.  I take more meds than most as I've had MS for 28 years and I've also been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, Myofascial Pain Syndrome, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Chronic Pain.  I live on Disability income and I just KNEW I would never be able to "give"!!  Little did I know it took so little to make so many people happy!!

I phoned the pharmacy and let them know they had made a mistake.  I let the pharmacist know they had only charged me for 1 prescription but I had picked up 2 prescriptions.  I told her I owed them some money.  She acted SHOCKED!  However she never thanked me for being an honest person.  She never let me know that she appreciated what I did in ANY manner.  I felt as if I had "inconvenienced her" by letting her know of their error in my favor which I did not HAVE to do.  (I have always been this way due to the teachings of my Mama but now that she's in heaven, I know she's watching me and smiling.....)  Is it WRONG for me to think I should "expect" even a "thank you"??  I was just very surprised at no reaction at all.............

Is what I did considered "giving" even if nobody appreciated it??

Thanks for any input...

Hugs!

Yes, it is in my book. The sitaution is that she hasn't learned to receive in the same way based upon the reaction. Giving doesn't need a response in the way you expect it. I hope the meds work and make you feel better.
Thanks so much for your reply! I feel sure, now that I've put some thought into it that obviously she was VERY surprised that I was as honest as I am and I believe it shocked her! lol!

So.......**YOU** did bring up a key point here though!! The problem is they don't work "well enough" to ease the pain from FM, MFPS, CFS and Chronic Pain. My pain Dr. continues to lower the strengths of my meds...... OUCH..........and those are on top of the 29 yrs. of MS.... Gulp! I've got too many 'syndromes' going here!!

However one 'Syndrome' I do have is "Positive Attitude'!! My friends say they "Love My Tude"!!

Thanks and Hugs!

Hi Joni,

I just read your first post, and I think you did a wonderful and honest thing. I might also be able to explain the pharmacist's reaction. You gave an anonymous gift to the company's shareholders. You also did the right thing, and thereby gave a gift to yourself. To the pharmacist however, your honesty meant that she would have to go into back records (you paid by automatic debit) and correct a mistake she may not have made, and somehow find a way to ring up another charge to you without the product or the debit card in front of her to scan. She does not get to keep the money that you gave back to the company. For whatever reason, she sounds like she did not want to give her own gift (of working out this tangle of charges) to her employer. However, she is an employee of the company that that is what she get paid to do. So yes - you did give a gift, most notably to the company itself. In order to give that gift, you needed another person to help you (the pharmacist) who did not feel like helping at that time. Hence, you got a bad reaction. That said, you did the right thing and perhaps the pharmacist learned something from your honesty that day that will pay forward in the future.

Yes siree!

Thank you for this post~
