29-Day Giving Challenge

As almost every woman can relate to, I struggle with my image from time to time. I feel like I should be a thinner person, I find myself falling prey to society and the media's nonsensical ideas of how women should appear and I live a long life comparing myself to the "skinnies." I have had moments of skinniness (usually during stressful times) but normally I am a middle-of-the road kind of gal when it comes to my size. The facts are these: I am 34, with three beautiful children, I love food and I do not ever deprive myself of anything. And even though my dress size is higher than a 10 and I would never be recuited by Janice Dickenson, I am a healthy, vibrant, strong, intellegent and, yes, beautiful woman. For the most part I eat well, I exercise daily, I am spiritual and am constantly looking for ways to improve myself and the world. Why is it, then, that I even bother to think those negative thoughts about myself when all they seem to do is depress me and, in a matter minutes, temporarily quash the positive self esteem I have worked a lifetime to instill.

It makes me sad when I see women doing this to themselves. Comparing yourself to others is probably one of the worst things you can do. When we do this, we cease being true to ourselves. When we are healthy, we should be happy. When we have so many abilities and blessings already in our life, why do we focus on that one part of us - bellies, butts, thighs, etc. - that we seem to think are flawed (really, they are not!)

So - I pledge today to (finally!) accept myself as I am. I will get rid of those jeans in my drawer that I have been keeping since my early 20s because I "really want to get into them again!!" I will probably never get into those jeans again and that's okay! What makes me beautiful is the fact that I am happy, healthy and confident. I will remove from my life anything that takes away from these things.

Ladies - give yourself this gift. Ignore those weight loss ads. Be as healthy as you can and include in your life all of those things that YOU enjoy! Look up and forward to all the things you are and can become if only you'd shift your focus from your waist size. Then, and only then, will you radiate true beauty from the inside out.

Beautifully written Mollie, bravo.
Todays media will tell you who you should be, your inner light will tell you who you are.

I couldn't agree more. I think we all have those moments of self doubt. being healthy and happy is the most importaint thing!
Health is by far the best we can give ourselves and those who surround us. Go you!
Thank you. How inspiring!
Mollie,
You are one of the most beautiful women I feel honored to know. Your beautiful on the outside but your most important beauty comes from within your heart. You touch and make a positive difference in many people's lives!
Thank you for being who you are and for what you do!
Connie

Thanks for this post~

Very true and that is what we all do at times.  I am the same.  I loose a few pounds and then I gain a few pounds.  I have no one around to tell me how I look so I have to build myself up.  I have enough health problems that some days are hard to get thru with food and others when I crave food.  I am glad to read others feel the same way.  Thank you deb
