Passing along a gift: I got a grant from Wallowa County Cultural Trust Coalition (a small one) and decided to set up a $50 prize for poems about Zumwalt Prairie in NE Oregon. I'm collecting poems for ten years about the area - this is year two.
You don't have to be here to be part of this - doing homework about Zumwalt Prairie (there's a Nature Conservancy site out there and on Facebook that offers insight into the area - basically, you choose something that inspires you and off you go!) At the end of the year the $50 will be presented to the winning poet - so check out www.zumwaltpoetrycache.blogspot.com (no advertising and your ID is not shared) for how to submit. (Your name and contact info will be useful - and there's an e-mail address to use over on the blog - rather than here.) Check it out.
mary,
"yay!" enjoy!
:D
Linda! After reading your poem, I said a prayer for rain here in Houston. IT JUST STARTED RAINING! Going out in it now to turn off the water spinkler and enjoy the shower.
"the sudden rain brings welcome relief..."
Now, get off the high horse - or stay up there, stuck like a balloon on the power line.
You sipped the bad coffee from it, then washed it for me.
Just look! How honestly he comes by his legerdermaine and curmugeonry.
What I say: The good guy that can be self-proclaimed is not the good guy - nonetheless, namaste.
Ex Sighting Today: No heat at last! Though plenty of might-not-have-beens.
Mythica - play with these if you like.
just then, clouds sped across the skyscape
gathering in protest; walling off
the sun's midsummer glare.
the sudden rain brings welcome relief...
quenching the parched
dousing city streets
cooling the earth;
filling crevices,
smoothing contours...
i step into a nearby shallow
letting the rain
cascade through my hair; stream down my face,
collect in my palms -
sipping its sweet nectar,
i am happy.
Starter lines for Mythica:
-There's nothing more to say
-The journey to forever
-Forgetting the past; forgiving the future
-Eternity, on the head of a pin
-What if...
-The point of it all
-Life2.0
hmmm ... trying to think of starter lines ...
A trail of ants makes its way around the corner.
While candles burn in the darknes, I sit with my own fire burning inside me.
We're moving on to bigger and better things, but to do so we have to leave behind everything we've ever known.
The water trickles down forming a small pool at my feet.
The dreams are lifting up above the clouds.
