29-Day Giving Challenge

  • Book Club member, Mark, shared about the idea of keeping a gift in motion.  Mary thought we should gift books and keep them in Motion.  So here we go ...

Here's how it's going to work:

  • Anyone who has a book to give can post it (Title and Author) as a reply in this discussion.
  • If someone sees a book posted and would like to be gifted with that book, let the poster know.
  • This is where you now need to make sure you are "friends" with the person on this site.  (Send them a friend request if you are not).  Once you are friends with the poster you are able to send them messages.  Send them a message telling them you'd like to be gifted with their book and giving them your address to send the book to.  Note: Please make sure you send your address in a message and DO NOT post your address directly on this site.
  • Next, the poster sends out the book.  Also, please then remove that book from this discussion so people do not continue to request a book that has already been gifted.

  • Finally, once the receiver of the gifted book is finished with it, they MUST gift it to another.  It can be reposted on this discussion and given to another site member or passed on to someone else you know, but it must be regifted (tell the next recipient to regift it too).  Keep the book in motion!!

***It'll be interesting to see if any of our posted books are on here reoccuringly and how many site members get their turn at those books. : )

I think it would also be fun if there was a way to see a book's travels.
that should be easy as long as we are passing it amongst ourselves, we can post where we are sending it. i belong to BookCrossing and it's supposed to do something like that, but i've never had any luck with anyone getting on the site and letting me know where my books are. i think it has to do with the fact that you have to go through this lengthy registration process and look up ISBN numbers and stuff.
I didn't get very far with BookCrossing, either, but I love, love, love BookMooch (where you can find me as Mary M Johnson).
I LOVE the idea of Books in Motion on here, but it doesn't look like it's catching on. Perhaps we can all sign up with Bookmooch.com and trade books there. That way, we also get points that can be used to get more books from other members. Then we can discuss here which books we've received and hot ones that we've put in our bookmooch inventory.

I know Dawn and I belong. Does anyone else? My name on bookmooch is czechmate.

Thoughts?

Mary
I think it's a great idea, I believe in books in motion, it is so sad to have a book "parked" for years on a book shelf when it couId be read, again and again. I read a book last month that as an introduction said pass this book to at least 10 people and then ask the 10th person to give it back to you. I thought it was very kind of an author to write something like that. As instructed I have passed the book to a good friend :-) The name of the book is "Amazing Grace" by David wolfe and Nick Good. I would love to read : Eat, pray and love, it seems that half of the world read it except me ;-)
Ana:

My sister is reading my copy of Eat, Pray, Love. I'll check with you when she's thru to see if you still need a copy. I received the brand new hardback on bookmooch.com. SWEET!

I'll add Amazing Grace to my list of To Reads.
Books I have to give: The Shack
I just finished House Rules by Jodi Picoult.  It is about a young man with Higher Form of Autism called Aspergers Syndrome.  It is a good story line, I don't care for her writing as each person in the book.  If anyone wants to read it I send it to them.

Here is my list of books that I will gift to another and I will try and tell a little bit on the book:House Rules by Jodi Picoult

About a young man with Aspergers syndrome.  A higher form of Autism and most are in the genius catagory on some level in some ways. The one telling the story writes from the perspective of every character.  Good Story

ADHD & Teens by Colleen Alexander-Roberts, Forward by Paul T. Elliott, MD Very good if you have a child with ADHD

If You Believe by Kristin Hannah: A timeless tale of two lonely people who witness the miracle of second chances. Good!

Angel Falls by Kristin Hannah: About a woman in a coma who is brought back by her husband delving into her past and she can recognize it.  Very Good

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen  Very Very Good.  Couldn't hardly put it down.  Hated to finish, but couldn't hardly wait to read the ending.  Not your typical ending either.  This was gifted to me by Mary and she bought it used and it has like teeth marks on it, but does not interfere with the book at all.

If anyone wants a book let me know by going to private message under my picture on my site.  If we aren't friends yet you will have to ask for that first.  I won't send all or multiple books at one time.  One at a time.  Thank you rocken nana

Water for Elephants is gone to a person on Bookmooch.  In the time I typed the title and who it was written by it was wanted by someone.  So It is off the list, but can't actually remove it or at least don't know how.  Thank you deb/rocken nana

Okay, Water for Elephants went out thru Book Mooch, and so did If You Believe by Kristin Hannah.  I also had someone from Canada wanting Angel Falls by Kristin Hannah, but lost her and her request off my emal and don't know if I hit delete by accident.  Books really go fast fi they are wanted.  They have so many House Rules they won't list mine right now.  All for now deb/nana

if you hit delete by accident, it should be in your trash folder or your recycle bin. try looking there. Hugs, Dawn
