29-Day Giving Challenge

Anyone read "Breakfast with Buddha" yet? This is my favorite book this year.

Summary

"Otto Ringling, an affluent and ostensibly content New Yorker, is horrified to discover that his capricious sister has left half of their deceased parent's farm to her guru, Volya Rinpoche, an enigmatic Mongolian monk. To make matters worse, now Otto and Volya must drive to North Dakota together, with the former introducing his passenger to some American "fun" along the way. However, as they crisscross the country, Rinpoche's unique perspective begins to alter Otto's understanding of the world and himself. A comic novel of Buddhist philosophy, BREAKFAST WITH BUDDHA seeks to enlighten as it entertains."

I also read another novel by Roland Merullo, "Golfing with God." This book gave me the freedom to develop my own personal concept of what heaven is, rather than trying to accept or understand the traditional "heaven" and "hell" teachings.

I'm just starting a third novel of Merullo's, "American Savior"--appropriate for the upcoming elections--where Jesus returns to Earth to run for President of the United States.

"Breakfast with Buddha" is a really great journey. I hope you'll take it.

those all sound so interesting! i will definitely add them to my reading list. thanks, Minnow!
It took me a little while to get into Golfing with God. If this happens to you, don't give up. It's worth it.
I loved Breakfast with Buddha too.  I started going to a Buddhist center for meditation 5 years ago and took refuge vows about 3 years ago.  I loved this book; it did such a great job of summarizing a lot I had learned in a very digestible fictional story that was an excellent read.  I have not yet Golfing with God yet.

I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as I did! I still recommend it to anyone I meet who's looking for a good read.

Hi, Lisa--I'm in the middle of Three Cups of Tea. What a wonderful adventure to follow your heart and have faith that things will work out when you need them to happen! I'm also between novels in a series of Nevada Barr mysteries featuring Anna Pigeon, a National Park ranger. Anna is a strong-spirited woman who seems to find mystery in whatever park she's stationed. Some of the parts are rather gruesome, but I like how she triumphs in the end. And, I've made it my goal to visit sites in our National Park system whenever I can. If you decide to embark on this series, it's best to start from the beginning and read them sequentially. Glad you loved Breakfast with Buddha--it's the best!
