29-Day Giving Challenge

As soon as Cami's Book is available, I want it.
And once I've read it, I'll obviously want to discuss it here.

Cami's book is Titled 29 Gifts: How a Month of Giving Can Change Your Life

For those of you who don't know, Cami Walker created this online giving challenge. MS was taking a toll on Cami, physically and mentally, when a friend suggested she give something away every day for 29 days.

Already pre-ordered 2 copies. Can't wait!!!
I have mine pre-ordered too. Looking forward to reading it and discussing it!
Just got my book today!!! It's beautiful! I've already read two chapters and it's great. Cami is an incredible writer - she makes you feel like you're there experiencing everything with her and her family.
Finally got my copy of the book. Hooray!
I'll be reading as soon as I can.
If you were diagnosed with a serious illness and someone gave you this "prescription": give away 29 gifts in 29 days ...

How would you respond?
Would you take the prescription seriously?
Would you believe it could make a difference in your health?
i think that if someone gave me that prescription when i was diagnosed with a serious illness i would initially have doubts about it, like Cami did. i'd probably even get mad for a little while, thinking that they weren't taking the situation seriously enough. i do firmly believe that our mind set makes a huge difference in the healing process, though. after my initial "pity party" i would most probably take the advice - after all, it couldn't possibly hurt and at the very least would help to focus my attention on something other than my illness.
I'm with you.
I'd be a bit skeptical and would maybe wish the friend would've joined me in my wallowing ... but I think I'd be willing to try the giving
I bought the book Thursday, read 1/2 Thursday, 1/2 Friday, joined Saturday. The book was wonder-fully written. I have not figured out the entire website but will participate more once I get "better at it". Peace to all. . . .
Great!
So glad you joined our book club and our discussion.
You sure finished the book quickly (guess that means you liked it?) ... often I don't have a lot of time to read, but I started reading it last week and will probably finish it up this weekend.
Question for Discussion:

On Cami's "Day 1" of her 29 days of giving she recognized receiving many things. She gets called for a job even though she hasn't worked in months. She goes out to eat, and a man there pays for her meal. She is able to walk the 6 blocks home from the diner. She sleeps a full 8 hours that night, for the first time in weeks.

Do you think these things are a result of Day 1, her first give?
Are they a coincidence?
Is she receiving because she gave?
Is she receiving more or recognizing more receives because she is thinking more positively?
I think it is a combination, she is receiving more because she gave and bc she is recognizing the receives and thinking more positively. When i feel sad or mad, everything looks negative. I am not open or aware to or of the "good things". What i have learned in 29 gifts, is that my awareness to giving and receiving and thinking positively seems to intertwine together.
Question for Discussion

Do you ever find yourself wondering should I "give" this or not? How do you decide?

Mbali says you need to be careful of giving out of obligation. It's a sign that things are out of balance.
Ask yourself, "Will giving this fuel me, give me energy?" If the answer is yes, then it's an authentic offering out of love. (page 73)
