29-Day Giving Challenge

Eate Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert is the book I'm going to be reading next.
I'm hoping to have some discussion on it on here. If this seems like one you want to read, you may want to get a hold of a copy of it and get in on the discussion. If you've already read it, you might also want to join the discussion ... even those who haven't read it are welcome, as long as they don't mind finding out some of the details of a book they haven't yet read (many don't like to know what's going to happen in a book). If we start the discussion and you then decide you want to start reading and join in you can do that. There are no rules here; everybody is welcome and all discussion is welcome.

A little info on the book:
Elizabeth is in her early thirties and encountering some panic and confusion. She leaves behind her husband (and everything) to go on a solitary journey. On the journey she examines three aspects of herself in three different cultures: pleasure in Italy, devotion in India, and balance between worldly joy and divine transcendence in Bali.
The book examines many forms of love including love of God and love of self.

Going to look for this today.

BTW, as I've written before, bookmooch.com is a great place to get free books - a member sent me the hardcopy of Eat, Pray, Love and it looks brand new. Going to add the second book to my wishlist and see if it comes up.

I finished that book a couple weeks ago and loved it!!
I'm loving this book! India is my favorite section. I've just started Bali and will be bringing the book with me to finish on the plane tomorrow. Can't wait to discuss when I get back.

Have a great week, readers!

Mary
I just started this one. Anyone else just reading it, too?
YES! I just finished it on vacation last week. I loved this book and was very surprised at the negative reviews I read on bookmooch.com from a couple of readers.

The second trip is my favorite, though they each have their strongpoints. Can't wait for you to get to India.

Mary
as for reviews from readers, everyone likes different things

Eat, Pray, Love wasn't an all-time favorite from me though I still enjoyed it and got some things out of it

I've heard lots of praise for it, but I also have a friend who says she doesn't understand why all those people were saying it was so great. She didn't like it so never finished reading it
Okay, Just because of all the good things I read here on this discussion I went out and bought the book. I love it! and I identified with SO MUCH of what she was talking about within just the first few pages.... so thank you all so much for turning me on to this book!

I am half way through and enjoying it. It was the kind of book I needed to read right now. I am not religious but in search of some sort of spiritual connection. I am hoping yoga will guide me to that place.

Kris
i'm so glad you're enjoying it!
I loved this book. I read it about 3 months ago. The reviews didn't do it justice. I don't know how the movie will fare even with Julia Roberts playing Elizabeth.
I agree - LOVED the book and was very surprised at negative reviews.

I've never seen a movie that met my expectations following the book. Our readers' imaginations are soooo much better than anything Hollywood can put out.

That being said, I'm still hoping to fully enjoy the movie. Fingers crossed.

I thought the movie was terrible and didn't even watch it all.  I hope the book is better
