29-Day Giving Challenge

Hi all! I'm new to the group and was just wondering what you all are reading right now. I'm a big Stephen King fan, and my husband gave me his newest novel, "Under the Dome" for Christmas, so I'm reading that now. It's a long one, over 1000 pages.

The only SK book that ever freaked me out was Salem's Lot. It probably didn't help that my hubby was out of town when I was reading it, so every little sound I heard had me on edge. LOL

I saw Howie Mandell on a show recently talking about his phobia of germs. I can't even imagine living with something like that.

I'm a true crime lover as well. I haven't read many lately though. I believe the last one was Darkest Night. That was a sad one.
Hi -- I just finsihed a million self help books (it feels like it). So I red the story of a true american hero. The Lone Survior is written by the only remaining Navy Seal from operation Red Wing and how he stayed alive. His name is Marcus Luttrell. A real hero.
That sounds interesting. I really want to read Out of Captivity. It's written by four of the men that were rescued from Colombian terrorist several years back.
Hi there! I am reading The Help. I'm not quite finished but am finding it to be a very interesting book. It takes place in the 60's and is looking at the lives of maids in the south...quite a nail biter...I have to put it down when I think something bad might happen. I have to get through it though before I meet with my book club!!

Jenn, have you read any James Patterson books? His books are pretty suspensful -- Step on a Crack was pretty intense but good and thrilling!!
Oh yes, I've read many of his books. I'm up to number five in the Women's Murder Club, and I've read many of his others as well. I don't think I've read Step on a Crack though. I'm going to see if the book club I belong to has that one.....Yep, they did. I requested a copy. Thanks for the recommendation. :)
i just finished The Help yesterday. it took a little while for me to get into it but once i did it was very good. one thing that reading it did was to help me to understand a little better the lives and attitudes of my MIL and husband. having been raised in Chicago my experience was a lot different. not that i condone racial prejudice any more than i did before, but it did open my eyes. honestly i have a whole new respect for my husband's open mindedness knowing it  had to have been a huge growth curve.
right now i'm reading Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. it's about how Greg Mortenson tried to climb K2 (the second highest mountain peak in the world i believe) in Pakistan and wound up building a school for rural Pakistani children. so far it is really interesting.
Hi Jenn, like Rhonda, I'm not into fiction so much. I just started a new book (after finishing Cami's book a couple of days ago). It's called, "Against Medical Advice," by the famous fiction author, James Patterson. Only it's not a fiction novel. He agreed to write the book for his friend. His friend's son was diagnosed with Tourette's Syndrome and this book tells the story of his son's journey and the family's experiences navigating the diagnosis and medical landmines that follow. My son was formally diagnosed with TS and we have had a very similar experience.
I also read 'Against Medical Advice' recently. It was really eye-opening about all the trials and tribulations that go along with the TS diagnosis. The ending was very heart-warming.How is your son doing now?
Hi JennH.
I am currently read 2 books: Cami's "29 Gifts" and Patricia Cornwell's "Scarpetta" I received the PC book as a Christmas gift and am a HUGE fan of hers! I had read several of her books pre-children. Now I hope to get back on the bandwagon with my crime thrillers again!
Peace and Love!
Hi
I love, love, love humor, especially reading biographies of comedians ~ I just finished 2 of Chelsea Handler's books ~ "Hello Vodka, Are you there ?", & "Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang". Very funny, hilarious at times, and I did laugh out loud on many occasions, but you need an open mind, as she can be somewhat crude, real, very honest about what she reveals, tells it like it really is, saying things many of us wish we could say, etc. Loved both !! :)
Right now I'm reading "The Bedwetter" by Sarah Silverman ~ hilarious, dry wit at times, honest, but very funny !! :)

~ Lacy
Love her!
