Mary, I read in a book today that using grocery bags for one's garbage not only reduces our need to purchase plastic bags & saves you about $35/year. I've been doing this for about 20 years.

Mary, it's great that you found an outlet for your boxes and bags. I do something similar as well.  I know the Food Bank appreciated your donation.

Good one, Thia!

I recently started giving plastic shopping bags and boxes to a friend who runs estate sales, to bag her customers' purchases.  I try to remember to take my reusable shopping bags with me, but still forget them once in awhile.  I feel a little better knowing that Rhonda can reuse them for her business.

I also included a lot of bags with the Houston Food Bank donation I made on Monday, along with a stash of packaged utensil sets from fast food places.

One of my ways of recycling/reusing is to give a friend shredded paper. She uses it for cat litter.

For my 1st day, I shared that I practice picking up at least 1 piece of paper each day. If it's aluminum I put it in my trunk until I have enough to fill a small bag. I give the bag to one of my co-workers who recycles the cans. If each of us picks up 1 piece of litter each day our surroundings would be so much cleaner.

I just went on Best Buy's website. Here is a link for their recycling programs. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/null/Recycling-Electronics/pcmcat149900...

You can even click on your state from the pull down menu and get more information that way.

Recycling is a gift to the earth and future generations!

Mary,

I hope that you don't mind but I used the link that you provided about the American flag on my website on the helpful links page. It is a great link and I am glad that you provided it.

Thanks,
Andrea

Mary--

Re the ink cartridges-- The office supply stores only accept five per day (around here anyway). If you like one specific store over the others, you can only give them five per day and keep going back until you are out of old cartridges to turn in. Or you could bring them in to two or three different stores to get them off your hands.

Re the flag-- there is a True Value hardware store by my house that has an old mailbox like the USPS uses & is now painted white. You can place your old flag inside and they will dispose of it properly. I am not sure which organization is responsible for tending to the drop box and the flags, but I know that it gets used a lot. I bring my old flags there. That is a great link that you provided.
