Back after a whirlwind month... Contemplating Day 1 (to start tomorrow)

Whew... sure did miss this forum the past 5 weeks or so. My client has left this world... and I took a few days to recenter and to restore myself. Basically... though the gift giving was in the back of my mind.... my whole focus was the 14 hour shifts, getting the right rest and nutrition to keep it up indeffinitely....So tomorrow will be my Day 1. So glad to restart this Rx. Looking forward to catching up on all of the happenings here!See More

Greeting gifters... I've been absent due to my work schedule but am still looking for gifting opportunities every day...it has helped me tremendously to focus on others and this is a wonderful experience. My gifts have been small... but significant none the less. Basically I have been concentrating on one family, as I have been in their home 14 hours a day... camped in thier living room with a bedbound client in a hospital bed.I am glad to report that a recognizable result of this focus, is an…See More

Day 6 12/09/09 Donating Books and Mailing Encouragement

The abbreviated version, is that a domestic issue has reared it's head, and I was unable to drive my in laws to Gainsville... I am broken hearted and my marriage is in crisis (again... 24 years with the same man you'd figure we'd have the hang of it by now... but it is what it is.)... but I used the gift challenge to try to transcend the feelings of sorrow, anger, and anxiety... though I had necessary conversations... I stayed on target and I boxed and mailed books I donated to an Army Drug and…See More

Day 1, 12/4/09

Today I brought a nutritious meal of soup, salad and low fat spice cake and had lunch with my mother. It may not sound like a big deal, but we are both having health challenges that have made it difficult. It was the gift of not only a meal, but being able to be fully present and listen to her, and I became aware of how often I interrupt her. I learned to listen... and at the end of the visit she loaned me a movie. She had to excuse herself a couple of times during the visit... and on the way home I noticed I appreciated focusing on someone else other than myself and my aches and pains.

Day 11, 12/14/09 Housekeeping With Good Humor

Posted on December 14, 2009 at 5:24pm 1 Comment

Today I cleaned house and looked for a missing wallet, keys, and ID ..with a smile on my face and a sense of humor for an elderly man. He came to the door confused and distracted, after making coffee and as we sat down, he told me his dilemma.. one I'd heard before. As I surveyed the rooms there was quite a jumble... and I asked him if I could look for him as he read the paper. A few passes told me this wasn't going to be easy... and the poor guy had no idea where they were, what shirt or pants… Continue

Day 10, The Gift of Signs and Symptoms and Taking Action

Posted on December 14, 2009 at 4:00am 3 Comments

Yesterday as I arrived at work... there were signs of a rough night... my client was in distress. I quickly made her comfortable and began the shift. As her family slept... she had a very rough night, was exhausted and uncomfortable. I patiently gave care and cleaned the kitchen making coffee ready to hit the on button when they woke up. All three in the house hold are chronically ill but there is not bed available within traveling distance. I am praying for a bed in a skilled nursing unit to… Continue
