One Year On... Is It Fall or Spring?

What's happening in your garden right now? Are you raking burnt colored Autumn leaves or are you watching Spring blooms emerge? It's been almost a year since I ended my 29 day challenge. Fall leaves and chillier mornings are reminders of the season that lay ahead. My heart carries a little Spring AND a little Fall at the moment, if that is possible. The Fall…See More

One Year On... Is It Fall or Spring?

It's been almost a year since I ended my 29 day challenge. Whilst outside my window there are flowery offerings and the temperature is rising, for many of my Northern friends the opposite it is true. Fall leaves and chillier mornings are reminders of the season that lay ahead.

AussieGiver Drops In To Say Hi!

Posted on December 21, 2008 at 4:45am 3 Comments

And where has she been you may wonder?

Well, physically I've been to the bottom end of my country and back, visiting the lush Tasmanian landscape..

Mentally and physically things have not been going so well with my vestibular illness... I'm booked in to see my neurologist in January so hopefully he will have some new ideas about medication and what the heck is going on inside my head when I see the ground is perfectly flat but feel like I'm walking on waves. *Sigh of… Continue

Epilogue - It's Only The Beginning...

And yet it's also the end.

Firstly let me say that from the very start of this challenge I had a strong inkling of who would be getting the biggest gift of all. I suffer from a vestibular disorder, which for last two years, has pretty much pushed the metaphorical "pause" button on that remote control I call "my life". Things I took for granted - my vision, my balance, my ability to care for myself and my family, to return to my teaching job - were suddenly thrown into random order. I… Continue

Day 29 - I'm Going Topless!

Posted on October 12, 2008 at 11:30pm 4 Comments

Well no. But I AM going bra-less (in a manner of sorts). Got your attention, didn't I?

My last gift is going to be a bra or two.

Check out upliftbras.org, an organization that collects used bras in good condition and sends them to women in countries such as Fiji where a bra costs the equivalent of a week's salary!

Something that most of us take for granted - underwear! - is considered a luxury there. They are especially in need of nursing bras and larger sizes.… Continue

Day 28 - The End Is Nigh

Posted on October 12, 2008 at 5:52pm 3 Comments

The boys dug deep today and are going to donate a toy "shop"/store that they no longer use much to the local daycare centre (Gift#28).

This helps their poor Mamma out tremendously as, in terms of the challenge, the end is nigh and I'm finding it REALLY difficult to concentrate.

We have a family trip coming up in a few days. It involves air travel and an almost seven year old who refuses to fly. Plus packing for four, a child's birthday party to plan BEFORE we go and all… Continue

I read all about you on your page. You have had a very inteesting life so far. I am a certified guidance counselor recently retired. I love psychology. Do you have to have a doctorate in Psychology in order to practice Psychology in Austrialia? I needed a masters in psychology and counseling in order to be certified (registered?) in Florida. Just curious. What are you planning on doing with your psychology background? That is a sweet picture of you and your son on you page:-)

thanks for the comment. i hope the plastic helps. remember that things are just things... even photos. yes, they hold energy and trigger memories but the charge you're feeling when look at the photos is your own judgment and emotional reaction. Just something to ponder. when i feel charged about something i meditate and ask for neutrality and removal of all judgment. The fact that your sister asked you to keep her things is a sign of deep trust on her part. be grateful for that.

Well to be honest, I've been up and down the eastern seaboard of the US and have made one trip to Hawaii, San Francisco and Las Vegas, but other than that, I haven't seen much of the US myself!. I definitely recommend starting in the east. Boston, Savannah, Philadelphia, and of course New York City are a must... but don't come in winter (here)... you'll have this horrible notion of what a cold place this is and never want to come back! Come to New England in the fall, pumpkin picking, and fall foliage, and warm apple cider!!! Its really the best... I'm hoping to take some photos of the beautiful Massachusetts backdrop to upload soon....
