Reset to Day 1 - Movie Pass for the Desk Clerk
Okay, I fell off the blog post wagon if not the giving wagon. (I give...I'm a giver....)Spending the long weekend on Martha's Vineyard with my husband and daughter. Sunday is "dinner and a movie" night at the Offshore Alehouse in Oak Bluffs so we got a movie coupon when we paid the check. We're leaving tomorrow so I gave the coupon to the desk clerk at the hotel. His "Awesome!" in response SEEMED sincere :-)See More

Day 1 - Socks, powder and chapstick
It feels like cheating because I bought this stuff weeks ago, but I finally delivered several packages of tube socks, some travel sized Gold Bond medicated powder and Chapstick to a drop off site for St. Francis Chapel in downtown Springfield today. These items, along with other toiletries, will be distributed through a local hospital's homeless outreach.

The PLANNED Giving of the Day

Long story short (I hope): a few weeks ago the local NPR station was having its fund drive and they had teamed with the local community foundation so that for every person who gave to the radio station, the community foundation would money ("20 meals") to the food bank. SO that got me thinking about the food bank. Most days on my way from the parking garage to my office I go through a little Lebanese coffee shop to get my preferred caffeine delivery device: a Coke. Because I go in the back door and out the front and get to the register before I pass by the case with the Coke, I have gotten in the habit of leaving my money by the register, getting my soda and then leaving. Day 3: Standard Christmas Fare

Exchanged gifts with my husband and daughter, then my stepdaughters and our son-in-law arrived. Due to the death of my father our financial situation improved this year and we "went a little nutty" but mainly with "necessary extras" they really want and need--sd and sil are moving into a bigger apartment for example--rather than out and out luxuries. It's nice that we have kids who are blown away by generosity rather than "Uh, yeah, I wanted the red one...."
