Good giving!

Profile Information

Why I'm choosing to give:
I am choosing to give to remind myself of life's gifts. When small gifts are bestowed, they can have a domino effect of good. Giving to others will provide prospective on the "things" that I hold dear, teach me to be more selfless and to appreciate my life and livelihood.
What I'd most like to receive:
Enlightenment, understanding, compassion and pride (the good kind).
How did you hear about the 29-Day Giving Challenge?

About me:
A transplant from Chicago, I have been calling the L.A. area home for 14 years. With abundant sunshine and beautiful people, you are constantly faced with the contradictions of the shallow and materialistic along with the homeless and downtrodden. In this land of inconsistency, L.A. has allowed me to challenge my comfort zone, appreciate what I have accomplished and work towards bridging the gap.
I am a business and freelance writer, I have a wonderful family of friends and I read, create and tinker around the house for DIY projects in my free time. I love the sunshine, riding my bike along the beach and long conversations of mindbending possibilities.

Wagon Falling Leads to Helmet Sales

Posted on October 23, 2008 at 8:28pm 3 Comments

After a lull in my activity, I wanted to chock the whole thing. I thought, if I couldn't keep up with it for 2 weeks straight, how could I do it for a month, or six moths, or a year for that matter? But, what I realized is that even if you fall off the wagon, there is something good to come out of it. Perhaps it is a renewed belief in the innate good in others, a fresh conversation about the project, someone's words that made your heart smile, or maybe it was the Helmet salesperson saying "I… Continue

I'm already off the three things

Posted on October 15, 2008 at 3:42pm 4 Comments

Okay, so perhaps an ambitious move. Blogging every day was challenging, then I thought how bout every three days? hmmm okay maybe every week? It's quite a task when I have to work at work....ahem. How will I get all of my personal stuff done if I am working all the time (at work)?

To be honest, my motivations for this program have been scrutinized, so I stepped back. Not necessarily naysayers, per se, but non- believers or eyebrow lifters have been hangin around this town. Not that I… Continue

Thank you all so much for your comments on my first post, you are an inspiration and very kind. Until they remove me from communist rule at work, I will have to blog late at night while the city is sleeping.

Ahh, so day 4 was filled with crafting, gardening, chatting and figuring with a friend. I love to get my design on, so we surveyed her new home for lovely new possibilities and repurposing. I gave her my design ideas, paint choices and marriage counseling and general " YOU CAN DO… Continue

The first few days...

Posted on October 4, 2008 at 5:45pm 6 Comments

When stumbling upon this movement, I thought it made so much good sense in thoery. But, how could I do it? Would I continue on the commitment? Would I fall behind? Then last night, as I told some friends about 29G, I had an epiphany. Anything I do at ANY time makes a difference.

I started with cleaning the dishes for the office. I know, that's lame. But, its something I would never do, since I don't use any dishes. And it was...well....gross. But, I thought, well I have some free… Continue
