Positive thougts and prayers
How did you hear about the 29-Day Giving Challenge?
my daughter Tracy Murphy from Harker Heights Texas.
About me:
I am a retired educator /counselor who misses being with children. I will soon begin volunteering in the Dividend Program which is the school volunteer program for Seminole County, Florida. I also hope to sub in the public school system. I have been giving to others ever since my father told me on my 18th birthday I would be giving blood! From that time on I have given my blood along with my time, talent and treasure!

I have been greatly blessed with two wonderful children who have given me 4 gradnchildren and 2 step grandchildren. My daughter talked me into doing this challenge. I fly to Texas as often as I can to be with my daughter and her family. Tracy's husband is a career army officer and is presently serving his second deployment in Kuwait. His first deployment was in Iraq. I like to give her and her children as much of my time and support as I can.

My son has a son, whom I get to see and babysit on weekends occasionally. What fun! And they only live 45 minutes from me, which is a plus!

I have volunteered in my church community for the past 30 years. In 1993 I went to work for my church as a religious educator. I eventually accepted a job as the guidance counselor for a Catholic Elementary School.

I was planning on working toward an online PhD in Psychology but after I was accepted and studied the rubrics of the course, I decided I did not want to do this. So instead I keep my mind busy with online courses in the health and science field which has always held my interest.

Day 9, 10 and 11. Just because a person is 92 years old, should not mean you get tired.....

Posted on October 14, 2008 at 8:53am 3 Comments

I went to visit my mother an hours drive away. She was tired and could not unerstand WHY she should be tired! I told her it MAY BE because she is 92! That did not compute. I wonder if i will even LIVE that long to find out if I should be tired or not:-) I took her shopping and planned a game or two with her. She lives by herself in a retirement community. It is always a struggle emotionally for me to make the trip. So I will consider this my give. Last night I went to see my grandson play… Continue

Day 8 and 9..I gave the gift of listening.....

Posted on October 10, 2008 at 8:08pm 1 Comment

I have two friend who needed to discuss some issures with me. I gave the gift of listening which I consider a valuable present. How often do we get so involved with our own problems that we do not give our undivided attention to the people we care about?

Day 8 and 9..I gave the gift of listening.....

Posted on October 10, 2008 at 8:04pm 0 Comments

I gave the gift of listening to two friends. Both of them had many problems they had to get off to tell someone. I was there for unconditional listening. It is always something I enjoy for myself so I know it is a great gift to give to others....

Day six and day seven...

I called an elementary school yesterday to volunteer to become a special friend for a few students. I plan on volunteering for two mornings a week. I also have been packaging up treats and books for some children on WUAH.

Thank you SO MUCH for your comment. It has been a hard day. I just calculated that tonight is the first night in 13 years that I'm going to sleep without a pet in my life. Only a grieving mind would do that.
My boys were just great. We wrote a poem as a family and then blew out a candle near where Max was buried.
I so understand your inability to let another dog into your life. Each time you do, it's like you take your heart out and ask for it to be stomped on. It's only by remembering all the love and the good times that you can move on.

Yes, of course I remember you. Wish I could fly there as well and have a nice visit in good ol' TX. Have a great trip, give that wonderful girl of yours a big hug from me. I miss her tons. :)
