In case you haven't heard, the Washington DC area has been really hit by snow for the last week or so. I live in a condo building where we usually say hi to our neighbors without really knowing their names. We have a common element parking lot and after the 20+ inches we got last Saturday everyone was trying to dig their cars out from under all that snow. Most of us don't have snow shovels. I haven't been posting on 29 Gifts but that doesn't mean I haven't been giving. For the last month most of my attention and giving has been focused on Haiti. I have been giving small donations nearly daily to the organizations on the ground that I know are doing good work: Doctors Without Borders, CARE, Catholic Relief Charities, UNICEF, the Red Cross, Albert Schweitzer Hospital, Yele, Concert for Haiti, etc. Continue

Oops! I forgot to blog yesterday. But I didn't forget my giving. My friend Barbara's birthday was yesterday. I am notoriously bad about birthdays and usually never remember any of my friend's birthdays. They usually remember mine. Admittedly Facebook is a big help nowadays.

Busboys and Poets is my hang out. It's a restaurant, bar, coffee house, bookstore and fair exchange shop. I'm here now having a hot buttered rum and working--free wireless internet access. I come here for hours on end and read, work, eat and visit with friends. BB&Ps is committed to human rights, social justice, the environment, sustainability AND having a good time.
