The weather is turning cooler here in Midwest America. It makes me think of cookies, apples, candles and baking.

Give: I bought cans of pumpkin to turn into a delicious pumpkin cookie or pumpkin bread and I bought pumpkin flax granola bars to share.

Receive: My daughter brought home pumpkin "kisses" to share

Happy beginning of Autumn from Indiana!

My friend writes a column for our local newspaper. She is a wonderfully gifted writer and writes uplifting stories.

I wrote a letter to the publisher, complimenting my friend on her stories. In a world where we hear complaints about the stories in the paper and complaints in general, I hope this letter will be a bright light in her day!

My very good friend has moved to another town and her kids are starting school at a new school, in a new town, and must meet new friends, new teachers, etc.. I sent them a "good luck"/ "you can do it!" card with well wishes and $1 each for going to the local ice cream stand for a celebratory ice cream after the first day of school.

We moved my daugther into the university last week and I was so impressed with the organization and care of "move in day", I sent emails to the residence hall director and various others at the university, so they would know they did a great job making us feel welcome and organizing everything for an emotional day!

My 2nd daughter is going off to college for the first time. We are packing her up and heading out early tomorrow a.m. She has the normal nervousness and excitement about going and I have the normal running around craziness of trying to help her remember everything she needs and making multiple trips to the pharmacy and grocery store.

My emotions are conflicted and bittersweet with memories of earlier years with simple days, family dinners, sharing of a heart broken over boys,…
