Back to Days 27-29, Yay I'm all caught up!

Posted on November 22, 2008 at 10:33am 4 Comments

Thank goodness for online giving! Being the little perfectionist that I am, it was driving me crazy to be behind. So, I went to three wonderful websites and made donations, and I'm caught up and ready to begin again!

So for Day 27, I donated to the Nashville Rescue Mission, a wonderful organization for the homeless in my city. They always are in need of funds, and particularly at Thanksgiving when they're trying to feed a huge portion of the city's homeless a Thanksgiving meal. Also, it's… Continue

Days 25-29, Help, I'm behind on giving!

Posted on November 22, 2008 at 10:01am 2 Comments

Well, I've been completely off-track with my giving this week. I'm starting a new job this upcoming Monday, and have been finishing up at my old job and, well, honestly, just didn't focus on giving. So....my one give for the whole week was getting a book for my husband that he mentioned he wanted to read. So, if I'm playing catch-up, Day 25 is taken care of :).

Today my daughter's coming over, and I'm going to teach her to make pecan pie, including the crust. She and her group of friends… Continue

Day 24-Can you give to dogs?

Posted on November 16, 2008 at 7:30am 7 Comments

So yesterday was Day 24 and it was quite a day of gives. The more I make giving a habit, the more I want to give. First give was a pedicure at the spa for my husband. He likes to get his feet done (probably my influence, I'm obsessed with keeping my feet pretty and it's probably worn off on him) and he was overdue for a gentleman's pedi. So, I made his appointment and treated him. Second give was treating my daughter to a movie and popcorn! We had both read "The Secret Life of Bees" and loved… Continue

And Back to Day 20!

Posted on November 14, 2008 at 3:00pm 4 Comments

So, I needed to catch up one day, so I'm doing two small gives extra today to make up! My little gives are: I went to President Elect Obama's transition website, where you can email your vision for America, and sent a message with my vision. My vision includes affordable, quality health care and insurance for every American and I also asked that the administration set an example of healthy nutrition by allowing the White House Organic Farm to be placed on the grounds of the White House. BTW,… Continue

Day 23

Posted on November 14, 2008 at 2:37pm 0 Comments

My wonderful friend Jen has made me very conscious of the benefits of organic foods, and the need to buy local, eat local and support farmers, particularly organic farmers. She is President and Founder of the Friends of the Nashville Farmers Market (fnfm.org). Other wonderful friends like Robin, who works with Slow Food (check out slowfoodusa.org or slowfood.com) and Amber, who writes the GirlHealthy Blog (girlhealthy.com) have also made me much more particular about where my food comes from.… Continue

Nashville is a magical place. And when I get back to Nashville, I will definitely let you know so that we can get together. You're right, it's very hard to be in the caretaker role, as the person isn't going to grown up & become independent by the end of the your stint in the caregiver position.

Have a blessed ThanksGiving season!

Thanks for your comment. We are having a wonderful time. I'm so behind on recording my gives. I have given away several Obama buttons to French Obama supporters. Today in Florence we gave 10 euros to a group of activists against drug abuse. They've got a super recovery program and it felt like a worthy cause. BTW, I'm very grateful for my little clutch purse. It has totally come in handy as a wallet/catch-all/purse on this trip. I keep my Euros, my lip gloss, and my Obama buttons in it! Thanks and we'll see you soon!

Helen Gaye~~The "elderly & sick" are actually my mother & father.
Even tho I have a lifetime of professional experience as a clinical social worker, it's altogether different when the people are your parents and they are terminally ill. Somedays are good, somedays feel like the end of the world. Since they are depressed, one tries to keep that emotion in check when around them.

Would you believe that I grew up in Nashville? Attended Tarbox Elementary School, graduated from University School of Nashville.
Undergrad, master's degrees in Nashville too. (I always mean to get back, but life gets in the way.)

Thanks for your kind words. And for championing organic gardening and farming...
