Jane - I bet you receive all fulfillment from "buying for your dad". I hope those clothes provide all the warmth and coziness to the owner and I hope that huge huge blessings come your way for all that you do. Much love, Merry Christmas to…

Day 20-29 Summary

Wow, where did the time go. I haven't been able to blog the last nine days but I did continue to give. I did not even realize today was my last day but I wanted to blog about a special gift. My father died almost 7 years ago but today I bought him a Christmas present. At our small town shopping store there was a tree with tags to buy gifts for needy children or so I thought. I've done quite a bit of that the last couple weeks but I glanced at the tags anyway. I realized that some of them were…See More

Doesn't sound like you have a lot of time to give at this point. My wish for you is more time for yourself.

Jane, Thank you for your comment. I read your blog on time and was very touched by your gift of "leave." As a working mom I can certainly understand what an amazing gift time is. T. Dali

Days 15-16

Day 15 - Sunday - We went to church as usual and I did my volunteer duties at the computer and Christmas Adopt-a-family. All my wish list tags were taken the first day. Yea!! We gave our weekly tithe. My daughter and I went Christmas shopping and I bought an extra outfit for the two preteen girls from our adopt a family. They will already get one outfiit but these were cute and on sale and I couldn't resist. And what teenager wouldn't want more clothes!Day 16 - Monday back at work. Today didn't…See More

I think Days 12-14

I've lost track of days this Thanksgiving weekend. Hmm, what have I done. There is a family in our state that lost their 1 yr old son in a house fire. They have 5 kids 2-6 and the house is a total loss. The dad is an Iraq veteran who has already had 2 heart surgeries. Money won't bring their 1 yr old back but it will help with the other children. I said a prayer for all of them and donated at www.eckheartfamilyfund.com.I cooked quite a bit for…See More

Your story brought tears to my eyes. I, too, think that you saw that request for a reason. You will know that child will enjoy that machine....as your son did. I do not know what I will give away...I hope something reveals itself like it did for…

Your story was very touching. I know it would be hard to give away the bubble gum machine because of the sentimental attachment, but you'll always have the fond memories of your friend and I'm a firm believer that things happen for a…

Bubble Gum Machine

I 've been reading 29Gifts and contemplating what my one gift should be that is something I don't think I can give away.So today I decided I am going to gift my bubble gum machine - I think. I'm sure you are thinking why is that so hard for me to part with. Many years ago I was a single mom with a little boy and my life then was not something I am very proud of. But somehow through that I did manage to hold a job and there I met one of my closest friends. We couldn't have been more different but…See More

Why I'm choosing to give:
Two reasons - I've had minor health issues and seemed too hung up in my own life, then a friend lost her 29 yr old son and it made me reavaluate what is important. Giving the gift of Jesus is the greatest gift of all.
What I'd most like to receive:
peace and gratitude to God

Day 19

Posted on December 3, 2009 at 8:30pm 2 Comments

Today was a busy, travelling day for work, so I didn't do very well with donating my time - I gave money again. I pledged $25 to the Christian radio station that I listen to in the car. I had a productive day and worked through lunch.

Tonight the whole family worked out, went to visit our granddaughter, then I went to the grocery store for my husband so that he could go home and watch Survivior - I missed most of it, but that's OK.

Time

I was reading in the book about scarcity. I realized that for me it is easy to give money, my husband might say too easy :-) but the thing in my life that is the most scarce is time. As a mom who works away from home, I feel like I hold on to it for dear life - but my plan is to try to give more of my time.

Day 18 - An opportunity presented itself but not in the way I had expected. At work, employees that have exhausted their sick leave through a lengthy illness, etc. may request… Continue

Support our Cause of the Month
In November, we're sponsoring a cause that has been started by fellow giver, Lubabat. We are so deeply touched and impressed by Lubabat's strength of character & spirit. Lubabat was diagnosed with MS in the mid 90s and then in August of 09, she was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. Her reaction has been so inspirational - she is thriving through giving. She is hosting a Christmas Give and her theme is "going small to make a big impact" We have named her our November Cause of the Month and would be grateful for your support!

Happy giving!

Mary

P.S. Don't miss our handy 29-Day Giving Calendar or our cute Gift Note to accompany your gifts.
