Doesn't sound like you have a lot of time to give at this point. My wish for you is more time for yourself.

I've lost track of days this Thanksgiving weekend. Hmm, what have I done. There is a family in our state that lost their 1 yr old son in a house fire. They have 5 kids 2-6 and the house is a total loss. The dad is an Iraq veteran who has already had…

It's been a late exhausting night. My gift today is staying up late preparing all this food for my family for tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving! Be grateful.

Your story brought tears to my eyes. I, too, think that you saw that request for a reason. You will know that child will enjoy that machine....as your son did. I do not know what I will give away...I hope something reveals itself like it did for you…

Thank you for sharing. Some of the hardest things to do in our life turn out to be a huge blessing for us with unbelievable happiness. Best of luck with making the decision. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

Your story was very touching. I know it would be hard to give away the bubble gum machine because of the sentimental attachment, but you'll always have the fond memories of your friend and I'm a firm believer that things happen for a reason, ie, the…

You don't have to give it away...but it sounds like synchronicity...I'm so sorry for your loss...but the machine will bring joy to a new family now. Best wishes in your decision.

Profile Information

Why I'm choosing to give:
Two reasons - I've had minor health issues and seemed too hung up in my own life, then a friend lost her 29 yr old son and it made me reavaluate what is important. Giving the gift of Jesus is the greatest gift of all.
What I'd most like to receive:
peace and gratitude to God

Day 20-29 Summary

Wow, where did the time go. I haven't been able to blog the last nine days but I did continue to give. I did not even realize today was my last day but I wanted to blog about a special gift. My father died almost 7 years ago but today I bought him a Christmas present. At our small town shopping store there was a tree with tags to buy gifts for needy children or so I thought. I've done quite a bit of that the last couple weeks but I glanced at the tags anyway. I realized that some of them were fo… Continue

Day 19

Today was a busy, travelling day for work, so I didn't do very well with donating my time - I gave money again. I pledged $25 to the Christian radio station that I listen to in the car. I had a productive day and worked through lunch.

Tonight the whole family worked out, went to visit our granddaughter, then I went to the grocery store for my husband so that he could go home and watch Survivior - I missed most of it, but that's OK.

Time

I was reading in the book about scarcity. I realized that for me it is easy to give money, my husband might say too easy :-) but the thing in my life that is the most scarce is time. As a mom who works away from home, I feel like I hold on to it for dear life - but my plan is to try to give more of my time.

Day 18 - An opportunity presented itself but not in the way I had expected. At work, employees that have exhausted their sick leave through a lengthy illness, etc. may request donated leave.… Continue

Days 15-16

Day 15 - Sunday - We went to church as usual and I did my volunteer duties at the computer and Christmas Adopt-a-family. All my wish list tags were taken the first day. Yea!! We gave our weekly tithe. My daughter and I went Christmas shopping and I bought an extra outfit for the two preteen girls from our adopt a family. They will already get one outfiit but these were cute and on sale and I couldn't resist. And what teenager wouldn't want more clothes!

Day 16 - Monday back at work. Today didn'… Continue

Support our Cause of the Month
In November, we're sponsoring a cause that has been started by fellow giver, Lubabat. We are so deeply touched and impressed by Lubabat's strength of character & spirit. Lubabat was diagnosed with MS in the mid 90s and then in August of 09, she was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. Her reaction has been so inspirational - she is thriving through giving. She is hosting a Christmas Give and her theme is "going small to make a big impact" We have named her our November Cause of the Month and would be grateful for your support!

Happy giving!

Mary

P.S. Don't miss our handy 29-Day Giving Calendar or our cute Gift Note to accompany your gifts.

Oh, and I also gave a tip even though I had food to go. I wasn't going to leave it but then changed my mind and went back in to give it to the waitress since the homeless lady outside whom I was going to give it to had already left.
