Commitment Day

Hmmm, somehow I dropped the ball on my last 29 day commitment. So, here goes again! One of my daughters has this challenge for the DARE program she is doing at school. It's actually "do a good deed daily" for the next several months and that reminded me about this so I'm back. I'm sticking to giving of myself, time and such more than things. I would like to do this w/out spending much money since my budget is tight. I would also like to make sure I don't start giving people sugary foods/treats.…See More

5th Day

My daughter goes to guitar every Wednesday. I got a call from her about 30 minutes before her lesson time telling me she was sick and didn't feel well enough to go to guitar. I had her call and let her teacher know. I'd already paid for the lesson but instead of crediting it to next week's lesson, I let him keep the payment for any inconvenience.N-gave part of his lunch to his friend that didn't bring lunch moneyI-gave her cookie to a girl that wanted itK-brought the trash can to the back yard…See More

4th Day and We're All Hanging in There

Over the past several days I've realized how much I attach giving to material things. I've had so many ideas about what to give and they have all involved spending money to buy things or giving people food (usually w/ processed sugars). I decided when I committed to doing the 29 days that I wouldn't spend money every day because it's not in my tight budget and I also have cut out processed sugars and I don't want to contribute to the over-consumption of it in our society so those ideas are out,…See More

How nice that you're doing this with your children. And how nice that you're teaching them that they don't have to spend money to give. Good luck and enjoy!

As a nurse, I must say it really is a gift to keep yourself positive and "sunshine" when doing IVs because we really do feel bad about missing and having to try again. I'm so glad it went easier the next day. Many blessings to you.

3rd day, practice in receiving so others may give

Posted on November 16, 2009 at 5:59pm 1 Comment

The kids (especially the 13 year old) had a tricky time with this today. My girls thought hard about their day and remembered something they had done throughout their day.

Kiera picked up an eraser that the girl next to her in school had dropped on the floor and couldn't reach.

Iliana left for school later than usual in the morning because the neighbor kid wanted to ride his bike to school w/ her, "I gave my time" is what she said.

Nathaniel made Kiera's bed for her.

Support our Cause of the Month
In November, we're sponsoring a cause that has been started by fellow giver, Lubabat. We are so deeply touched and impressed by Lubabat's strength of character & spirit. Lubabat was diagnosed with MS in the mid 90s and then in August of 09, she was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. Her reaction has been so inspirational - she is thriving through giving. She is hosting a Christmas Give and her theme is "going small to make a big impact" We have named her our November Cause of the Month and would be grateful for your support!

Happy giving!

Mary

P.S. Don't miss our handy 29-Day Giving Calendar or our cute Gift Note to accompany your gifts.
