Art & Anne Lamott

On Friday I treated my good friend Annee to a night of writerly fun. Anne Lamott, one of my favorite authors, was giving a talk at a church nearby, and so I bought us tickets awhile back so that we could get out of school and do something fun (she was an English major, too). It was such a blast. And we stood in the parking lot afterward, freezing our heineys off, talking for over an hour. It was flipping awesome!!Then, yesterday I hosted my friend Sarah for an afternoon of art. Our theme for…See More

Why I'm choosing to give:
my motto is "be kinder than necessary, everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle." as an introvert, however, I find that I tend to focus inwardly on nurturing myself, and I want to focus my attention outward on those that are around me.

“When we look at a statue of someone great, we think they've got something we don't. We are trained to think that only a tiny percentage of us have the stuff it takes to be a hero. Not many of us will cure any diseases or slay any dragons, but every single one of us, every single one of us, is called to be a king, a queen, a hero in our ordinary lives. We don't build statues to worship the exceptional life, we build them to remind ourselves what is possible in our own.” -unknown

Whimsy

I give you....Whimsy...

I first met her somewhere around the end of sixth grade, on a Girl Scout camping trip. She was "my elf," and I used to draw pictures of her and let her ride around on my shoulder at school. Whimsy was my 2nd elf friend, after Leila (who I released back into the nature-land because her family needed her)and I spent most of 7th grade with Whimsy as my companion.

She stayed when I left for Yakima. Not… Continue

Past, Present, Future

Today I spent the afternoon in the company of two beautiful women creating art pieces that represent an aspect of our past, present and future, hosted by Courtney (check out her website at: http://thehealingnest.blogspot.com/ )I'm not sure I could think of a more delightful way to spend Easter Sunday!

Mass Mailings

Posted on April 6, 2009 at 1:27pm 2 Comments

A little corner of my apartment has been accumulating outgoing mail items for awhile now, and today I needed a break from schoolwork, so I took my new ride on a trip to the local post office!!

I sent my grandma a deluxe crossword puzzle book, as she is 90 years old and just moved into a nursing home. She's not adjusting well to the new change, and because I live too far away to visit, I thought she would appreciate some crossword puzzles to occupy her time (she's a regular crossword… Continue

Pineapple muffins

Posted on March 28, 2009 at 3:34pm 4 Comments

The other day I had a dream about eating pineapple muffins. Since my mom always told me to "follow my dreams," I woke up and googled pineapple muffin recipes. Mmm, they were super tasty, and since I had mad 2 dozen I decided to drop some off at my favorite middle school (where my MIL works and where I often substitute teach). Everyone really enjoyed them!!

Thank you for your comment, Jenna. It made me so happy. So I clicked on your photo and saw your beautiful hennas. I was in India for a wedding two years ago. The bride had her hands all the way up to her elbows decorated... and her feet all the way to her knees. All of the women (including me!) had their palms henna'd (is that a verb?). It was so cool. Want to be friends?
