End of the Challenge-What I have learned

Posted on May 12, 2008 at 9:28am 7 Comments

By accepting this challenge

we decide to shine a light

on our conscious

on our soul.

By doing this challenge

we actively look for chances...

chances.

to help others, to heal others.

By completing this challenge

I've learned

that I have been this kind of person

all along.

What comes naturally to me,

has made me realize

that I am the kind of person

that I would be friends with.

that I would want on my… Continue

Day 29 It's just simple cupcakes for my last day...

Posted on May 12, 2008 at 9:12am 4 Comments

Day 29 found me putting so much pressure to find the right gives, that I almost failed completely. As our busy days suck us up and hold us tight by the throat, the clock keeps ticking...and now all I have to offer is a box of Betty Crocker devils food chocolate cake mix and some cupcake tins. *sigh*...however, my neighbor, and mommy playmate, and really, my sanity during the mommy days , is my hero. She's got twins, the same age as my little one, and she's been blessed with another little one,… Continue

Day 27-28 Almost over? Looking for my gift-ees....

Day 27- I'm a junkie. A Magazine Junkie that is. If it's at the supermarket check out, it's my impulse item. I don't discriminate. I read the parenting mags, the beauty and fashion mags, decorating mags, music mags, and ok, I will admit it, the Woman's World magazines that my mother in law got me addicted to! (The daily affirmations page is hysterical..I love to read them out loud to my husband.) Anyway..I gathered up my latest monthly hoard, and separated them into stacks of 2 or 3, wrapped… Continue

Day 23-26 During the Giving Challenge, it's interesting how easy it is to say YES

Posted on April 29, 2008 at 1:00pm 0 Comments

At every tip jar opportunity, I gave. At every "would you like to Donate" request, I gave. So hopefully the teams at Starbucks, Greenlee's, Baskin Robbins (what, it was for the kids!), and Chipolte Grill will be a bit happier. Contributed again to Autism Speaks, and The March of Dimes.

I wrote an email to the San Jose Mercury News to tell them about this amazing challenge Cami has started.

Now the bigger ones...I bought my son a new phone. Now, this might be a little… Continue

Day 19-22 Catching Up - busy week & I really like my son's new girlfriend...

Posted on April 24, 2008 at 9:30pm 0 Comments

Geez..it's been awhile. Not sure I've done something Every Single Day, other than just being the best mom I can be, and giving my best & my time for my family. My husband's been out of town on biz, so getting everyone ready and off to school was, um, fun. I worked for 2 days off and on, on a new friends copywriting project. (She liked it! She really liked it!) I sent a bonus pair of undies to a spectacular customer all the way in Australia. I sent my dad some pics, and today gave my teenage… Continue

Great blog. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and the comments. Hope that you're still finding that a small give can make a big difference.

What a lovely gift you gave me way back in May...yes, Fred Rogers was a very special guy, and it was my privilege to work with him and to facilitate his remaining on PBS. I am collecting stories about him...there are many...from everywhere. If you have one to share, I would be grateful. His books are also wonderful. What you saw was who he was. I have a picture of him with my son and his daughter which I truly treasure. Thank you much. Alice (from the neighborhood!)

At my age the biggest thing I should be thinking of is my cholesterol and blood pressure. I did not envision my life taking this kind of turn. I have been recently fired so now I'm on unemployment for the first time in my life and that's really dreadful after 38 years in education.

Got no medical insurance, but the good part is that I'm not sick and obviously can't get sick until a year from December when I can get medicare to possibly serve my needs.....who knows.

Got my alcoholic - not to be placed in the plus column. Apparently there is no work for me anywhere currently, but I think that makes me kind of a symbol of the nation at the moment. Altogether I'm not in the best place at the current time.

Now this is what I thought would happen. I would work for 35 years, retire when my husband did and we'd travel a little, go see the grandchildren and enjoy a quiet life. In reality, if I can get a job (eventually) I will work way up into my 70s, my grandchildren will grow up even without my visits and probably be OK, and my husband will still be an alcoholic, hopefully not in jail or wrapped around a tree somewhere.

Girl, I just wanna say SHIT!!!!

Having got that out of my system, I have much to be grateful for - don't I KNOW that - and life is what it is. I imagine I can be happy working until I drop over because there are 24 hours in every day and you've got to do something with them. There is a great deal in life you can't control, so figure out what you can, and make your changes there. Love those around you and be available to be of service when asked. Stop being a doormat if you find youself looking at the bottom of someone's shoe, and get a sense of humor. Practice making your face into a smile and only cry when you are in the shower where it doesn't seem so "wet" on just your face alone.

This was a portrait of her friend, which actually looks a lot like the little girl! My daughter is 4 and is participating in the 29 day give as well, she decided that painting pictures for people is the way she likes to give, so everyday I get a painting or two or three or four. I never thought it would inspire her to be an artist, I love it! We are on day seven!

Just moving back to So. Texas after being gone for 25 years. Glad fall is arriving as I am much more energetic. You may not miss the heat either. Had a wonderful give yesterday.....well, was it a give or receive?...spent the morning with my 82 year old neighbor taking her to Wal-Mart for the first time in 6 mos., to her favorite restaurant that she and her late husband used to frequent for some "pigs" and "best coffee". Getting to know her is a pleasure. Have a blessed day.

Thank you so much! The Langston Hughes necklace is sold, I am working on another one right now. Some of the sold pieces are at a shop in old town spring called Harpers on Main Street. I love to create inspirational jewelry so it’s really nice to hear positive feedback. I hope your week is going great!
