You ask about my native American Heritage,(on my mothers side.) she is full
Cherokee raised in the Dakota Sioux Nation.
mine goes back to the Cherokee, go online to Cherokee Nation.com and that can enlighten you on them.
at the time of the Trail of tears, in the 1800,s they were running from the army
This one villege of Chereokee, were heading into the Dakota Souix Nation,
had been given blankets that were contaminated with smallpox, by the time
a trapper Hardy and his Indian wife came upon the villege, most of the people were dead from smallpox. except for 31 children. hardys were escorting Missionaries named Goode to the Sioux at that time, The Goodes and Trapper Hardy and wife, worked to save the children, taking them on to the Sioux Nation, Where Goodes legaly adopted 30 of those children amoung them my Grandfather (Fred Goode/Shield) Trapper Hardy/and wife adopted my Grandmother (Ella Hardy Goode)
with white mans name, they could own land, and later had a way station in S.Dakota..and raised horses. These Horses were from a Hlidden Valley in the Black Hills of South Dakota. near the Rosebud Reservation.
you can go online, at the (Rosebud Reservation.com) site and find a lot of Native American information
On my Fathers side I am Irish and Swede.
My Grandfather was Irish, and my Little Paternal Grandmother was Swedish.
and my Grandfather was raised in the Wallowa Valley of Oregon, and grew up from Birth with a young NezPerce they were blood brothers as young men.
later when i was born at My Grandfather McFetridge Rance, both sets of my grandparents were there, land both my grandmothers delivered me.
and the NezPerce blood brother to my Irish grandfather became my Indien Guardian God Father.
and on my 40th Birthday he came with tribal members to name me Dragon Woman, Medicine woman, successor in the line of my Indian Grandmotherm,
I am very intriqed my this story and was privileged to have gotten part of the Story from my Mothers eldest Brother. who rmemberd the stories. as he was 21 years older than mother. and when he knew he was going to pass, he made sure I recieved this information in writings an d photographs.
and I am so thankful that I got to know him in person , and heard in person the
stories he had to tell.
I am studying geneology..on all sides, and it is facinating. there are a lot of mysteries to untagle, and I am working at it.
and it is wonderful to have the Native people have websites for us to go in an d study.
I am looking foreward to knowing you better Jenny..
Have a Blessed Day
Love and Hugs
