Hello, Friends!

Profile Information

Why I'm choosing to give:
I try to give on a regular basis but would like to be more mindful of it and perhaps expand those parameters of giving. I would like to impart this practice to my children and teach by example. My mother was incredibly generous and this effort would be a real tribute to all she taught me.
What I'd most like to receive:
A sense of contribution to a change.

I've decided to add what I need to send the energy out to the universe; a feeling of space and organization in my tiny home, more physical and mental energy, a solid direction for my artistic exploration/work.
How did you hear about the 29-Day Giving Challenge?
My friend, Rebecca (a gift to me)
About me:
I'm the stay-at-home mother of 2 small boys, a free-lance artist/illustrator and the wife of a preschool teacher.
Do you agree to read and follow the 29Gifts Code of Conduct once you join our site?
yes

Day 19 - A little more

Posted on October 19, 2008 at 5:49pm 0 Comments

My family went back to our local craft fair today and bought more pottery items to give as holiday gifts. We wanted gifts for my son's preschool teachers and my husband's co-worker so we thought combining that with a donaton to a good cause was too good to pass up. We found some love and simple items and it felt really good.

Day 18 - Weaving community connection

I will post now in case I don't make it back on. This morning my family visited our local farmer's market fo rthe second to last weekend of the season. We bought produce from the farmers for the week to avoid buying it from a store later and I chose a farm we hadn't supported before. We also bought a bone from another new farm that raises grass-fed beef and other animals for meat. The bone will be gifted to our neighbor (this give was my husband's idea). I spent some extra time to talk with and… Continue

Day 17 - Simple gifts

Posted on October 17, 2008 at 11:00pm 2 Comments

Today was my dad's birthday and I had been planning to have him come for dinner but my husband was sick and my dad works incredibly long weeks and couldn't risk becoming sick again himself so we've posponed. I would have liked to have come up with a good alternative plan but it just didn't work yesterday and instead I settled on calling him with my sons to sing happy birthday and I posted a greeting on his Myspace page.

I took my youngest to our local playgroup yesterday morning… Continue

Day 16 - Need to get my groove back

Posted on October 16, 2008 at 7:28pm 2 Comments

Today was a less than memorable gift day. My husband had a sick day which enabled me to keep 2 appointments including a haircut. I suppose being open-minded with the stylist and not freaking out when she removed most of my hair was perhaps a gift but quite a challenging one! I did leave a good tip, though. ;)

The only real gift that I'd count is bringing home a cookie for my husband. He asked for a treat and after searching I found the perfect bakery cookie for his sweet tooth.

Day 15 - Groovin'

Posted on October 15, 2008 at 6:06pm 2 Comments

My first give today was for my youngest son. I am bartering a logo design for a Spanish language music and movement class in exchange for a session for him. I am so excited to be able to do this for him and it turns out that all the other families are friends of ours and the kids are great matches for him. He's slow to warm up to situations and can be quite sensitive so I couldn't ask for a better circumstance.

I was successful in involving my sons in giving today. My youngest and I… Continue

I meant to say..."this stuff" not this "tuff" (freudian slip?)

Hi Jessie, Yeah, it all seems so obvious, and simple...so why is it so difficult to implement??? We KNOW this tuff makes total sense, and yet seems like such a huge task to swing the balance over and get things moving in a more harmonious direction. But I keep on trying, because I believe there'll come the day when it'll all just click. You know how it is when you're trying to push something uphill, and it seems like such a huge struggle... but who can say how close we are to the top of that hill. Let's not let up. Let's keep going because maybe we're almost there and then it'll be cinch from there.

Hi Jessie,
Thanks very much for the supportive comment about my painting. I find watercolours the most challenging, but hte most rewarding when it seems to go right.
