Days 27 - 29

Unfortunately I have had to have a few days off as have been run down with flu and been virtually housebound. However the last few days I have done the following: Day 27 - responded to an email from a charity asking for volunteers at a homeless shelterDay 28 - telephoned a charity which works with vulnerable women - I will be going in for a chat on Monday to see how I can helpDay 29 - I have just got back from volunteering at the homeless shelter. Days 23 to 26

Haven't been feeling great these last few days as have the most awful cold. On 5th and 6th January I started to bring my own plastic carrier bags (of which I seem to have many) to the local shops rather than use their own. On 7th January I gave my flat a gift of a massive tidy. On 8th January I went over to some friends with my scrabble kit and we had a few games. Days 11 to 17

The last few days I've been volunteering at a homeless shelter for the Christmas period. And all I can say is I'm so sad it's over and the guests have now had to go back to their lives on the streets/hostels/squats/substandard accommodation. I have had such an amazing experience though and met the most wonderful people with interesting stories to tell who were all so kind and gentle. It's getting harder. Yesterday though I bought a Congratulation on your new home card for a friend who has just moved and today I texted another friend wishing him a happy birthday. Am offline for the next few days as am going to be volunteering with a homeless charity organisation over the festive period. Have volunteered for the last 10 years and really enjoy myself. Days 4 and 5

We have had unexpected snow in London over the last two days so it's more difficult to get out. However for Day 4 I did a mass tidy up of my house and got together some books and a few clothing items to give to my parents to give to one of their local charity shops. And on day 5 I gave my Dad some sweets he really likes but are difficult to find and I gave my Mum a hat of mine that she liked. Days 2 and 3 - Story Writing Workshop Volunteer

For days 2 and 3 I volunteered at a story writing workshop for primary school children. As a group the children would create a main and secondary character, decide what the main character's greatest hope and fear was, plus decide on a setting. Then they would start the story, think of a title and leave it on a cliffhanger before sitting down and writing their own endings to the story.I enjoyed the experience as a volunteer and it was encouraging that the children were all very imaginative. Day One

Today I gave the gift of my time and volunteered at a Christmas Party for the homeless.It was great fun and I got to meet lots of interesting and inspiring individuals and to talk about a whole variety of surreal topics from pretending to be a premiership footballer to John the Baptist. Why I'm choosing to give:: I am finding it difficult to get work in the UK at present due to the economic situation. As a result I am spending a lot of time on my own and my self esteem has been affected

Unfortunately I have had to have a few days off as have been run down with flu and been virtually housebound.

Day 27 - responded to an email from a charity asking for volunteers at a homeless shelter
