Hey Johnna! Hope you're staying warm up there. We've had constant snow for 3 days. Thankfully, today was light, so I got a break from shoveling (and paying the plow guy!) Hope all is well with you!

And you don't need to buy something...if you have a book you loved, passing it on to a friend is a great present!

I would describe her work as character-driven literary mysteries. She's also funny. Case Histories is an A+ and her other books are solid Bs.

To the movies

I offered without hesitation to take our 12-year-old to the movies yesterday. That may seem like no big deal, but he's been really pushing boundaries and assuming we are his personal valet service for the past few months.Of course, first we had to practice how he ASKS permission and then for a ride...he first introduced yesterday's events by saying, "I'm going to the movies. I need a ride." So we backed things up a bit and reminded him how to ask for the things he wants...maybe that was gift as…See More

A little bit of joe

This morning I walked our son down to his karate session, and then walked to my mom's to give her a bag of chocolate cappuccino coffee, her favorite kind. I gave her a quick hug, wished her a great day, and continued on with my walk.

That was a beautiful thing to do Johnna, although I'm sure it was tough to do since it must have been an unwelcome reminder of what you went through. One of my best friends lost her son a little more than a year ago. There are no words to…

I can only imagine the stomach flop that must have caused. I admire your "circling back," as Pamela said. That must have taken some serious fortitude. I wish you nothing but joy and healing on this journey!

Oh Johnna - I can feel your pain. I went through 3.5 years of infertility before concieving my son. We didn't have a loss, but I know there is no pain like when you hear someone else is expecting and you SO desparately want the same thing. You…

A book for a friend

I gave one of my favorite Kate Atkinson books to a friend today. Just a "happy January" present for no special reason. It was fun to see her surprised and pleased expression.

Teen Yoga and Jane Austen

My yoga instructor is starting a teen night for girls every Wednesday night. Knowing I work with teenagers she encouraged me to think of anyone I might like to "mentor" and bring with me. I approached one of my field hockey players who is a wonderful young woman right before her English class. She is on the cusp of becoming someone terrific, with a little help. When I invited her to yoga, her face lit up and she was thrilled to be asked. I feel like she gave ME a present today. What a great… Continue

One of my best friends lost her son a little more than a year ago. There are no words to describe what she's gone through, and I'm sure the same goes for you. But I am astounded by your (and her) courage to go on each day.You are a shining example to the rest of us.
