I had found this link a while ago, and placed it on my desktop yesterday so I could begin 29 days of giving through the holiday season. My income is very limited now because of personal circumstances. Being unemployed in an uncertain economy does create some challenges in giving. I decided that I would not let that prevent me from giving, especially as giving during the holiday season is very magical in itself, and there are plenty of things that I can give that don't require money.

My first attempt at giving was yesterday. I am freelancing right now, making a little money trolling the gigs and working as a part time contractor. I write and I have been writing for people for years, and actually make some money off of my writing skills from time to time. So I came across an ad for a college student who needed help with a term paper offering to pay for assistance with preparing it. I thought this is a nice opportunity to give, and emailed them to offer to assist them for free as a gift. I did not receive a response, so I guess my first attempt at giving is not successful, but it felt really good to offer assistance, and not seek any monetary reward for my skills, in spite of my own circumstances. There is reward in even offering a gift.

Why I'm choosing to give:
We should always choose to give when the opportunity presents itself, or when others ask for our help. Even when we believe we have very little to offer, there is always something we can give to others. To have the chance to consider what giving is, and make a commitment to giving through a community forum is marvelous.
What I'd most like to receive:
peace and spiritual balance
