Is it giving if...? DAYS 3 AND 4 ROUND 1

I've been so conscious of the things that I routinely do that might be thought of as giving but I wonder if I'm copping out by counting as "gives" things that I would've done anyway or are enjoyable? For example, yesterday was my Day 3- for a give, I wrote out about a million Christmas cards and took extra time with them (tried to write something sincere and thoughtful; included a handmade card from my 3 year old that was actually MOSTLY made by me) and it took hours. But I would've done cards…See More

"I feel for you- it sounds like a tough situation. Forgiveness is a beautiful gift- one that is healing to your soul. I hope things improve on the husband front but it sounds like you'll be ok whether or not he recovers."

Profile Information

Why I'm choosing to give:
I already try to have a giving mentality because I believe it's an important way to connect people. I like the idea of keeping a 29 day journal to help me keep the giving mentality top of mind and to help me keep track.
What I'd most like to receive:
I'd like the giving mentality to become so ingrained in me that my first response to any situation is one of giving/generosity.
How did you hear about the 29-Day Giving Challenge?
a website called Chew Slowly
About me:
I'm a 40 year old mother of three. I work for myself from home doing research but used to be in advertising. I live in the Midwest in a rural area now but moved around a lot when I was younger.

A soldier's card- DAY 2 ROUND 1

Posted on December 4, 2009 at 11:53am 1 Comment

It's my second day and I was considering a number of possible gifts when Lisa Graham (another 29 - day giver) posted a blog that asked people to write a holiday card to a recovering soldier. She even provided the address:

A Recovering American Soldier

c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center

Washington, D.C. 20307-5001

I'd been doing Christmas cards already on the table next to my laptop- It felt serendipitous to take a card break and read that post. So I went ahead… Continue

Let's see, today is my first day of the 29 day giving challenge. I worried that it would be hard to find things to give but when I shifted my perspective to being giving (that is include acting with kindness beyond mere politeness and not focusing on things) I found that it was much easier. I was also surprised by the fact that I was faced with at least 3 different opportunities to be giving that I could act on- so it was almost like, at least for the first day, I didn't even have to… Continue

The picture of the Indigo Bunting on a tree I found on line, my phone camera just didn't do him justice. This is a male indigo bunting. He had rammed into our storm door and was unconscious when we found him. Paul and I gave him Reiki for a quite a while, then he started to move and drink the water from the lid. It felt like a honor to be this close to this beauty.
