Day Nine through Fourteen!

Phew!  The last few days have been busy!  Day Nine's gift was a cup of coffee and conversation with a friend.  Day Ten's gift was a bag of chocolate for a lady who does so much for so many.  Day Eleven was a dinner with a friend that I haven't seen in FIVE years!   Day Twelve's gift was time spent with my parents.  Day Thirteen's gift was a phone call to an older family member.  Since I did so much traveling over the past four days, Day Fourteen's gift was a day of complete rest for me!  I…See More

Day Eight - The Gift of Recognition

My best friend got engaged during the Christmas holidays and is getting married in March.  Her sisters and I are throwing a wedding shower for her.  Since the wedding is in Utah and schedules are crammed, the shower will be held March 2.  Today, I went to Hallmark to create the invitations for the shower.  I needed the invitations as quickly as possible since the shower is only 3 weeks away.  I explained my predicament to Alice, the staff member that helps with invitations.  Alice did an…See More

Day Six and Seven - A Mixed Bag of Gifts

After an emotional and busy weekend, I decided that Monday's gift would be to my husband and planned guests that night.  I gave the gift of a clean house and a home cooked dinner.  I was exhausted after the emotional weekend but decided Monday morning that I would spend the day scrubbing the house, particularly the floors.  With three dogs who constantly track mud into the house, my floors were in serious need of attention.  I finished the floors just in time for my guests arrival.  We shared a…See More

Day Four and Five - The Gift of Being Present and the Gift of Receiving

This weekend was full of emotional highs and lows.  Saturday morning was the memorial service for my husband's co-worker.  The memorial was held at the university and ballroom was packed full of mourners.  The speakers were eloquent and the presentation of the flag to the mother affected me deeply.  As the wife of a soldier, I could not help but to think that it could be receiving that flag, hearing those words..."one behalf of a grateful Nation".  Please continue to hold the family of this…See More

Getting Started!

Wow, I am so excited and nervous to star this journey!  I first heard about 29 Gifts through a RSDSA support group newsletter.  I must admit that sharing the same first name (almost) with the author has a bit to do with reading the book :).  I was also intrigued by the fact that someone my age facing a chronic condition had written a book.  So, I downloaded the book on my Nook and started reading.  I love reading on my Nook because I can highlight passages that are meaningful to me or stand out…See More
