Why I'm choosing to give:
I am choosing to give in order to live beyond myself - beyond my wants, desires and thoughts that are wrapped up in "me" and touch someone else's life from a place of love.
What I'd most like to receive:
That good feeling inside that comes from giving selflessly.

Happily married, mother of two grown children. I have every material thing anyone could want-a warm and cozy home, good transportation, a pantry full of food (both home canned and store bought), good health and most of all, God who loves and forgives me.

Little things

Posted on December 3, 2008 at 8:58am 2 Comments

I couldn't think of a way to give today until I was making out my bills. I had forgotten that I had two 2009 calendars from World Vision that I could send to the two children we sponsor. One child lives in El Salvador and the other lives in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. We also sponsor a child in Brazil through Christian Childrens fund. We've been doing this for years and I used to write them all quite regularly but as things became chaotic in our lives I have done this less and less.… Continue

Our deepest fear...

Posted on December 3, 2008 at 8:09am 1 Comment

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to… Continue

A new day with new ways to give

Posted on December 2, 2008 at 6:52am 2 Comments

Now comes the hard part, or maybe not. It was easy to say I was giving when I had my brother visiting, but now I have to have my eyes and heart open to opportunities I am yet unaware of for giving. I dumped all my loose change in the Salvation Army bucket yesterday. I had a conversation with a complete stranger in the pet store. Today I am going to follow up on volunteering my time at a nearby pregnancy help center. I have made monetary donations to the center in honor of my neice for several… Continue

Day Four and Five- the gift to my brother

Posted on December 1, 2008 at 6:17am 3 Comments

We took my brother home yesterday afternoon after taking him out to eat at his favorite restaurant. It was rainy, windy and cold and we all had to bundle up to fight the elements. He would have preferred to stay in his warm bed and spend a few more days with us, if not permanently. In fact he said "why are you getting rid of me, you don't want me anymore?" He just doesn't understand what a big responsibility he is to care for. I have often thought about having him permanently in my home, but I… Continue

Day Three

Posted on November 29, 2008 at 6:25am 3 Comments

Yesterday was day three of five days my brother is staying with us. Since we have so many Thanksgiving Day leftovers, meals were as simple as microwaving or sandwich making-what a nice break for me! He was quite tired from the Thanksgiving Day activity and stayed in bed awhile, allowing me to catch a much needed power nap. When he did wake up, I gave him a good bed bath and lotioned his back. I dressed him in his nicest clothes and we took him to see a Christmas Program at a nearby country… Continue

"Because I will have wings and fly!" If you ever decide to write a book about your experience as a twin of a differently able sibling, that would be a fantastic title for it. Basically each of you are teaching the other how to fly. I found out a tidbit of science I never knew this Sunday. Mother eagles when teaching their young to fly, if the young one is tumbling and falling, the mother fly underneath and gets the fledgeling on to her shoulder to safely scoop them up to the nest.

Now you are not your brother's Mom, but sometimes siblings and friends who are family can do the same. I see great things down the road for the two of you and people who can learn from what you have to say.
Take care girl, you Shine too!
Shine on dear sister, shine on!
