Simple Giving

When I first started, I thought gifts that were bought would be the most meaningful to the receiver. However, I'm starting to see simple gifts (smiling at a stranger, complimenting, sending a note, opening the door, etc) seem to bring the most pleasure & surprise to the receiver. It's been a very pleasant lesson to learn. I never dreamed "simple gifts" would seem to have such an impact. When I can't get out due to my MS & can't speak well on the phone, I've found Facebook to be an…See More

Givers Who Have Multiple Sclerosis

A group for people with MS who can talk about their symptoms etc but also gift ideas that may be easier for those of us who have a difficult time.

A cup of coffee

My gift today was given to 5 US soldiers through Green Beans Coffee. For as little as $2, you can purchase a cup of coffee for a US soldier stationed overseas.  The company will also deliver a message to the soldier from you if you write a note on the form. You are notified each time they receive their coffee & most soldiers will send a "thank you" back. It's such a small thing, but I know it's a moral booster for the soldier to hear from someone back home. The website for the program is:…See More

The gift of letting go

Today, I finally made the hard decision to let go of my volunteering at a local school. It breaks my heart to stop helping, but the constant bickering & drama were poisonous to my well being & health. Am I so "old school" that teamwork & appreciation for volunteers is too much to ask for? I'm sad to not see the kids any longer, but it was a must for my health. One of the hardest things I've ever done, but a gift to myself in the sense I will no longer be unhappy with constant drama. See More

Profile Information

Why I'm choosing to give:
I am choosing to give because it is a principal I have chosen to live by most of my life. I would, however, like to make sure I follow this on a daily basis rather than when I see the need. I like doing for others and seeing the joy on their face knowing someone cares. In this day and age, it's fun to see their surprise sometimes also.
What I'd most like to receive:
The knowledge I am doing something good for others is more than enough for me.
How did you hear about the 29-Day Giving Challenge?
I found the book at our local library & I'm so glad I did!
Do you agree to read and follow the 29Gifts Code of Conduct once you join our site?

My friend, Lori, and I are officially starting our 29 days of giving challenge on Jan 1. I am so excited to get started. We couldn't think of a better way to begin the new year than with giving. I'm a firm believer in giving, but never kept track of it before. It's going to be fun to see what I do each day & for whom.

Thank you for your comment, I really needed it right now. I am generally very busy, today I made dinner for my husband and said I made you dinner as a gift and he said 'really, I am not accustomed to getting diiner so I stopped and bought food" I am still calling it my gift. I give you do what you want with it. Then I caught him packing it to take to work for lunch tomorrow.
