When I first started, I thought gifts that were bought would be the most meaningful to the receiver. However, I'm starting to see simple gifts (smiling at a stranger, complimenting, sending a note, opening the door, etc) seem to bring the most pleasure & surprise to the receiver. My gift today was given to 5 US soldiers through Green Beans Coffee. For as little as $2, you can purchase a cup of coffee for a US soldier stationed overseas. The company will also deliver a message to the soldier from you if you write a note on the form.You are notified each time they receive their coffee & most soldiers will send a "thank you" back. Today, I finally made the hard decision to let go of my volunteering at a local school. It breaks my heart to stop helping, but the constant bickering & drama were poisonous to my well being & health. Am I so "old school" that teamwork & appreciation for volunteers is too much to ask for? I'm sad to not see the kids any longer, but it was a must for my health.One of the hardest things I've ever done, but a gift to myself in the sense I will no longer be unhappy with constant drama. - Why I'm choosing to give:
- I am choosing to give because it is a principal I have chosen to live by most of my life. I would, however, like to make sure I follow this on a daily basis rather than when I see the need. I like doing for others and seeing the joy on their face knowing someone cares. In this day and age, it's fun to see their surprise sometimes also.
- What I'd most like to receive:
- The knowledge I am doing something good for others is more than enough for me.

My friend, Lori, and I are officially starting our 29 days of giving challenge on Jan 1. I am so excited to get started. We couldn't think of a better way to begin the new year than with giving. I'm a firm believer in giving, but never kept track of it before. It's going to be fun to see what I do each day & for whom.
