sounds like fun! I'm sure it did make her day! My daughter is a server and she said there is nothing better than getting that unexpected big tip... especially since there are so many people out there that seem to short change these hard working…

What a great idea! I paid my way through school too working in a restaurant, and can only imagine what that must have felt like for her. Think I'll steal the idea for one of my upcoming gifts.... :)

Welcome! I hope you find this experience as amazing as I have! I love the idea of the dollars in the pocket for easy access. I keep double dip chocolate mint sticks in my purse at all times for those spontaneous gives.

Day 4

Posted on November 28, 2009 at 9:12pm 1 Comment

Day 4 was fun, and a little bit about giving to myself too :)

Spent the day with my husband & kids, decorating the tree, making paper snowflakes, then out to a movie (Planet 51) & bite to eat. Oh, and a big tip to the fantastic server at the Ram. Hope it made her evening a little brigher.

Stair Climb for Cystic Fibrosis

Posted on November 28, 2009 at 7:51am 2 Comments

Hi fellow givers,

I'm participating in an event next week to help raise money to cure Cystic Fibrosis. I'm waaaay below my fundraising goal. I think it is a hard time of year for people to be donating. (Well.... that and the fact I have a hard time asking friends & family for money, he he ). I thought I would post a link to my donation page, in case anyone is looking for a great cause for their daily gift. The link also provides more info about Cystic Fibrosis. Thanks for looking, and… Continue

Day 3

Posted on November 27, 2009 at 9:55pm 1 Comment

Tonight I went searching for an online site to donate to for my Day 3 gift. I found a link to charitywater.org on the Causes page. I love that 100% of my gift makes it to the cause, and that my $20 will provide clean drinking water for 1 person for 20 years. Amazing. I was drawn to the charity because I recently finished reading the book "Strength in What Remains" - a true story about a man who escaped the genocides in Ruwanda/Burundi in the 90's. I was so haunted by his description of what… Continue

Day 2

Posted on November 26, 2009 at 12:23pm 3 Comments

I mentioned to my neighbor that I was off to the store to shop for sweet potatos for Thanksgiving and also pick up a gift for my mother-in-law. A couple minutes later, she shows up at my door with the perfect gift - said it was laying around her house and I might as well use it for my gift. She doesn't even know about the 29 day challenge... she's just a natural gift giver. Made me smile....

Support our Cause of the Month
In November, we're sponsoring a cause that has been started by fellow giver, Lubabat. We are so deeply touched and impressed by Lubabat's strength of character & spirit. Lubabat was diagnosed with MS in the mid 90s and then in August of 09, she was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. Her reaction has been so inspirational - she is thriving through giving. She is hosting a Christmas Give and her theme is "going small to make a big impact" We have named her our November Cause of the Month and would be grateful for your support!

Happy giving!

Hey, Kari -
Welcome to this challenge.
I like that you wanted to give to homeless people ... isn't it kind of good to know there weren't any on the streets? Glad you were able to give it to the salvation army: it makes their bell ring a little more cheerfully ...

Also, I noticed that you posted this in the comment section of your page. If you put things like this (about your gives) on here as a blog post more people will be likely to see it ... just go to "quick add" on the right hand side of the page and click on "blog post" to add a blog ... Then everyone will be sure to see it! : )

DAY 1!! I'm so excited to be here. I made the commitment to the 29 day challenge on my way out of my office building today, downtown Seattle. I took a couple dollars out of my wallet and put them in my coat pocket for easy access, expecting to pass a homeless person or two on my walk to the bus stop. Wouldn't you know it - not a single person. Thankfully, there was a Salvation Army bell ringer right next to my bus stop, so the money went there. Now I'm looking forward to Day 2 and trying to think of something special to bring my mother-in-law on Thanksgiving Day.
