Today was an especially trying day. I was at my wits end with my students, two in particular, who had a case of the Fridays and the school-year-is-almost-over syndrome. I had to send one out of the room and then I suspended the other one, but I kept him in the room until his parents could pick him up. My printer had been out of ink for a long time, so I finally remembered and got more ink. Immediately I began to print out pictures. A few weeks ago my brother, who we don't get to see very often, came over with his family. I took pictures of my two little nieces, and the family. My mother had sent her memory cards to her sister, so she had no camera to take any pictures. My gift was to give her her two favorite pictures of Ally and Ashley - who is only a few months old. I was sitting in a very feisty staff meeting, it was getting pretty heated, and nothing was really getting accomplished. My gift was to kindly be silent until I was called upon for input, and then I spoke in a calm voice. This changed the mood of the meeting almost immediately and things began to become accomplished. What a difference tone of voice makes! I was surprised that people actually calmed down.
