Our beloved "Squishy"--smart, adorable, sweet guinea pig--died of a heart attack last night, well before his time, despite my best efforts to save him. Identifying this effort as my 'give' for the day was my lesson in giving, even when it doesn't create what we want, but simply because we must give it. There is nothing that could stop me from calling myself forward for this sweet little creature, and for my daughter who loved and cared for him so much.

The beauty of tiny gives - my week at a small abbey



I spent a week in travel to and retreat at the Episcopal monastery, St. Gregory's Abbey, in Three Rivers, Michigan--a great time to receive simple hospitality and much-needed rest, with small opportunities for giving daily.
