It's been awhile

Wow. It's been a long time since I've blogged here. I haven't given up the Giving, and this movement is on my mind daily. And I've been working each day on finding ways to give.I underwent another surgery on my foot a few weeks, so I'm back to being housebound which really adds to the challenging aspect of the challenge. I've been working my way through the emotions of my daughter's choice to put her baby - my first grandchild - up for adoption. I've waded through grief and anger and…See More

Profile Information

Why I'm choosing to give:
I have long believed that it is by giving that we truly receive.
What I'd most like to receive:
Hmmm. True joy. The kind of joy that completely fills and radiates from every cell and fiber of one's being.
How did you hear about the 29-Day Giving Challenge?
A post in a MySpace group
About me:
I am a wife and mother, a reiki healer, an intuitive, and a performer. I have a soft spot in my heart for charity work and love participating in fundraisers however I can. If I ever had to choose between canolli and tiramisu, I think I'd implode.

Yes

"Give!" Said the Little Stream

When I was a very little girl, this was my favorite Sunday School song.

"Give!" said the little stream.
"Give, oh give! Give, oh give!
Give!" said the little stream as it hurried down the hill.
"I'm small, I know
But wherever I go
The grass grows greener still!"
Singing, singing all the day,
"Give away, oh give away!"
Singing, singing all the day,
"Give, oh give away!"

Every ending a new beginning

What a holiday season this has been! Once again, it's been a roller-coaster ride. My mother-in-law was scheduled for surgery earlier this month, but got sick at the last minute and had to reschedule. She'll be having that surgery next week. My husband's employer put the word out that there would be no more overtime allowed until further notice, so any overtime worked will count towards personal time instead. This is good and bad. The money would be so nice right now, with holidays and birthdays… Continue

The Party

Posted on December 12, 2008 at 4:05pm 2 Comments

Last night was my husband's office party. It's a very nice event every year - a buffet dinner & dancing at a fancy restaurant overlooking the city. They really go all out every year for their employees. This year was no different. With one exception. This year they held a silent auction at the dinner. Several groups of employees put together gift baskets (using company funds) that were sold to the hightest bidders with all proceeds going to the local Food Bank. This just on the heels of a… Continue

It's been awhile since I've blogged. No excuse, really. My giving hasn't let up one iota. I think a part of me was afraid that it might if I let the blogging go, but it hasn't. I guess what I always felt was natural to me really IS natural to me. The one thing I have noticed, tho, is that this project - 29Gifts - is on my mind daily, as are the people involved. I wonder, as I contribute a few dollars at the grocery store to their food bank drive, what wonderful insight so-and-so has and what… Continue

Giving something you didn't think you could live without

Posted on November 23, 2008 at 12:39pm 3 Comments

This has been been quite the week. My husband had his post-op appointment and is healing well from carpal tunnel surgery. I saw another specialist about my foot (not too encouraging). And the doctors decided to induce my daughter on Friday and take her her baby a month early because he was experiencing Intrauterine Growth Restriction and the doctor felt it would be safer for both the baby and my daughter to take it early. So ... after a not-so-great labor (her blood pressure and the baby's… Continue

Hello- I thought this was nice for everyone regardless of religion or beliefs. Have a peaceful, beautiful day of the spirit.

A holiday affirmation:

I embrace the holiday season with joy and an open heart. I look at this time of year through the eyes of a child full of excitement. I gift others with kindness and a sincere smile. I feel at peace and view my life as the miracle that it is.

Thanks for the good advice. Actually I didn't take care of myself much yesterday or today (so far) and I know I need extra rest. Thanks for reminding me!

Good morning! My monkey and my wookiee have both been jagged little pills, but not too bad, really. Elias was upset last night that things weren't going his way, and so he didn't want to eat dinner, and eventually fell asleep on the couch long before his usual bedtime. Daycare explained he didn't nap at all yesterday, so that sums that up. Iain has been mostly awake since about 3 this morning. He's obviously tired, but he just won't kick off to sleep soundly.

(*Sigh!*)Parenthood, huh?

Yay! Thanks for inviting me! I really had to think about it... because I don't want to commit to something I won't really do. But I'm going to do this. So, here goes.

You're welcome. I really like your stream song. The picture is also beautiful. I had to give up both cannolli and tiramisu when I found out I am very allergic to dairy. My son says, "I had better remember to be nice to you because you can't eat pizza anymore." Have a wonderful day. - Sabriyah
