Why I'm choosing to give:
It's the right thing to do. I want to be less selfish. Instead of focusing on what I don't have, I want to focus on others and what I have to give to others.
What I'd most like to receive:
The knowledge that I made a difference.

Second Chances

Posted on October 5, 2008 at 5:00pm 5 Comments

A few years back I had Indian food for the first time and, well, it wasn't that great. I love food from all cultures and try everything, so it was strange to me that I had such a bad experience. Needless to say, I was very resistant when Natasha wanted to try an Indian Buffet today for lunch. But I decided to give her this gift and we ate there. I must have had an unusually bad experience the first time, because today was DELICIOUS! I had a great time, and everything I tried was great. We are… Continue

Replant a Bush

Posted on October 4, 2008 at 5:00pm 3 Comments

Today we took the kids to Cantigny Park for the Fall Festival. While we were there, Natasha noticed that someone had unearthed a newly planted bush right out of the ground. Could have been kids, but we were sure it was an accident. Anyway, I took out my knife (I carry a nice little Gerber) and redug the hole, replanted the bush, and went on our way. I think the plant will live, and the groundskeepers won't have to replace it!

Found a great new store

Natasha and I were early to the shopping center where our movie was playing, so we decided to look around. We found a HUGE Asian (Korean, mostly) supermarket. We were in heaven! So many hard to find items and other delectables! Natasha got a small jar of kimchi to try since she has never had it before. I cannot wait to see her try it!

I saw a small child with his mother checking out, and I bought some Pocky (Japanese pretzel-like sticks covered with chocolate) for him. Gave it as we… Continue

Battling IRR

Posted on October 2, 2008 at 6:12am 1 Comment

I have a disease called IRR (nothing to do with my bowels!): Internal Road Rage. Ok, I made it up. But it is something I'm not proud of. I don't outwardly react to what I call the sub-par driving of others, but I do let it get to me. It has been downgraded (by me... it's my made up disease remember!) from full-blown RR, so that's a plus. But it still flares up now and then. OK, the analogies are getting gross.

Anyway, as today's gift and as a start to something new for me, I decided… Continue

A Little Fun

Posted on October 1, 2008 at 6:23pm 2 Comments

Today I found myself at the grocery store. While walking to the door, I saw the bagboy going to collect carts in the parking lot. He looked at the closest cart coral and saw how many carts there were, and went for a coral with less carts. I quickly turned around and collected all the carts in the full coral and added them to his already-collected carts before he could notice. Then I ducked into the store! I wish I could have seen his face!

IRR is not good. I find relaxing music and extra driving time helpful. Most people don't allow themselves enough extra time to get where they need to go. That is something you could gift yourself! I can't tell you how many times I cleaned out the office microwave and fridge and no one ever thanked me. I thought about how everyone always forgot stuff in there over the weekend and let it rot, no matter how many times I kindly reminded them. Why am I always do I always have to be responsible for their irresponsible thoughtlessness and disgusting mess? They took me for granted, that's why. So one day I took absolutely everything out of the fridge and dumped it in the trash and left a big bottle of industrial cleaning solution inside it with a message tied on with a bow on it saying "Please use me!"and someone else cleaned it for me. I have no idea whom, but from then on it was never quite so gross ever again.
