Why I'm choosing to give:
I am choosing to give for many reasons. First I find myself wanting to focus on something other than myself as I get closer to the one year anniversary of my husbands death. As a recent widow I have spent the last year in a state of numbness, going through the motions of living but not necessarily living. I have spent too much time reflecting on myself and my pain and I think it is time to change that focus. At the same time, inspite of my pain and loss I have much to be thankful for, beautiful children, amazing friends, the support of people who I didn't even know prior to John's death, so many people were there for me and the kids when John died and it is important for me to feel as if I am giving back in a way.
What I'd most like to receive:
I think I would like to receive some inner peace in the act of giving, on taking the time to focus on others and not just on my own pain and loss. I would like to receive a sense of purpose as I challenge myself to give freely during the next month as I face the one year anniversary of my husband's death.

My 29Gift Journey ~ Gift 11

Posted on January 19, 2009 at 9:56pm 2 Comments

Busy day today, Mondays usually are. After daycare I took my 4yr old to dance and then I went to my Beginning Experience support group for those who have lost a spouse either through divorce or death. After our group session some of us got together afterward for coffee which was wonderful. It is hard for me to reach out to others but by doing so in a large group there doesn't feel to be as much pressure as there would be one-on-one. It feels good to be making new friendships and as several of… Continue

First I would like to apologize for taking so long to post. I would like to say that I have been too insanely busy to find the time to blog, but the reality is that I have found myself in a bit of a funk. I was pretty certain this was going to happen this month as I prepare myself for the one year anniversary of my husband's death which is why I was so excited to become part of this community. I had wanted to focus on something other than just my loss and thought this was a great opportunity to… Continue

My 29Gift Journey ~ Gift 6

Is it the weekend yet? Apparently not...but thankfully just a few more days to go. Today I had a counseling session that was very draining but I have been told that I need to work through my grief of losing John. I guess my path of trying to go around it wasn't good enough. :) This pain stuff really sucks...I have cried so much I am surprised my eyes aren't completely swollen shut. Today was a hard day to focus on giving when what I really wanted to do was just go to bed.

Besides my… Continue

My 29Gift Journey ~ Gift 5

Posted on January 13, 2009 at 9:00pm 3 Comments

After the drama of yesterday I am still feeling a bit drained but I think I mostly just need to sleep, which is what I will be doing as soon as I finish posting here. Today I decided to do another anonymous give. There is just something about giving your gift up to the universe, and having faith that it will find the right person at the right time, that really appeals to me. My gift today was simple but fitting due to the fact that it was extremely cold today and will continue with bitter cold… Continue

My 29Gift Journey ~ Gift 4

Posted on January 12, 2009 at 11:01pm 3 Comments

Today was a long, stressfull day, and yet at the end of the day I received an amazing blessing so I will start first with telling you what I received today. It started with me leaving the house at 7am in the middle of blowing snow to get to the bank to make a deposit to cover a check that I had deposited last week that came back as insufficient. I made the deposit but unfortunately not in time, after my deposit my account was still in the negative thanks to overdraft service fees. I started to… Continue

Hi Lisa, thank you for your comment and I'm glad the music brought some happy memories of special times with your husband.

Sending you and your children some thoughts and hugs. It must be a hard time for all of you. Your positivity and energy must give the children courage too. x
