Congrats and glad to hear you are going to do round 2. I love that you prayed for each person that you gave to and I might just use that idea. How great! Wonderful!

day 25--supporting reconciliation

i do very very little giving money to charities, or any organizations at all except for exchange (like buying something) or sometimes my church. i feel like i give so much time to so many different organizations, and money is not something i usually have much to spare. but today i got home exhausted, we worked til almost 9pm, and i despaired again of being able to give today (it was like back on day 5 or something..."no, i just can't do it! i'll have to start all over...i'm a failure..."etc).…See More

day 20--grandma kay

i called one grandmother for day 1, and today i was wondering, "who do i know who really needs a gift today? could particularly use my reaching out?" and i thought of my other grandmother, my dad's stepmom, who i visited this past summer but before that hadn't seen in almost 10 years. she sends me a card and a little bit of money on my birthday and christmas, and i write back a thank-you note...her cards always say, "come visit soon!" and mine always say, "yeah! i'm planning a trip to LA soon!"…See More

Why I'm choosing to give:
i moved in with (also work with) my boyfriend six months ago. since then i've been crying more than i ever have, about half the days of the month. i know i'm feeding the "disease" of my fears and insecurities, and feel very much in "scarcity" mode. i know practicing giving will help.
What I'd most like to receive:
phone calls, surprises, invitations
open and honest questions

day 29--prayers and a retrospective

I DID IT!!

I'm not sure I've done anything for 29 days straight, not in a long time anyway. I'm glad Cami had the idea for the Ning site and blogs; it helps so much to know I wanted to write down my gift every night and "talk"with you all about them, and about yours.

Tonight I sat down with my computer and my Anglican rosary (a little different from the Catholic one, 28 little beads instead of 108, but mostly there aren't any rules about what prayers to say with it). So I developed… Continue

day 28--a tap on the shoulder

Posted on March 16, 2010 at 7:16pm 2 Comments

today I called and left a message for my friend Sean. we were very very close last year, but have only talked a handful of times since I moved last summer, and I've been scared and cautious about reaching out to him. I'd love to figure out a way to connect even though we're far away, we still understand each other well (and if we're brave we can still be as brutally honest as we are in person!) I miss him.

day 27--maybe not so surprised surprise

Posted on March 15, 2010 at 7:06pm 1 Comment

"Uncle Pat," one of the volunteers who's been working on the boat for almost as long as i've been alive, has been coming down to help me a lot. He also takes me, or me and Kent, out to eat and drink a lot. Kent doesn't like hanging out with him much, but i remind him of his daughter and he reminds me of my grandfather. We love working together and going out at "beer-thirty." So today I kept him working long past his supper time, and he was starving and wanted to go out to eat at our standard… Continue

day 26--self-care

Posted on March 14, 2010 at 7:30pm 2 Comments

i hesitate to "count" gifts to myself, but today was nothing but one. i feel pretty good as a result, and several moments during the day i consciously released myself from worry or guilt about what other things i could be doing and said, "you want to make cookies and mac and cheese and finish your book? okay!" just now i gave myself the gift of brushing my teeth after all that junk food. seems like a tiny thing but i usually brush my teeth in the morning before work and don't even notice how… Continue
