Picking up the Trash

Posted on February 1, 2010 at 6:02am 7 Comments

Yesterday was my final give; my 29. It was solitary, which for me seemed appropriate. As I have wanted to do for some time now, I finally took a trash bag on a walk with the dog. On the way back from the park, I started picking things up that were strewn throughout the streets. There is tons of it around here. It bothers me to look at; in fact it's one of my least favorite things about this neighborhood. I always feel like picking it up might fix the situation, though I also feel so hopeless… Continue

Breaking a Bad Habit

I woke up yesterday hung-over. It wasn’t my finest hour but it’s part of the story. Coming off the glow of a really good day, I found myself laying in bed pushing snooze and feeling like life was a little less…shiny. I wondered why I even ended such a happy day the way I did. Then I realized it wasn’t worth my time to berate myself because the feeling would be there all day. And then I realized just one day earlier I committed to writing everyday for the rest of the year. I got up out of bed… Continue

The Rabbit Hole

I'm a commitment-phobe; perhaps a recovering commitment-phobe. In fact, I was secretly doing the "giving thing" for a while before I decided to finally commit to the whole concept and do "a round". I figured it would be good conversation for my book club. I figured signing in on to this site would make me more accountable, even though I thought it was a bit contrived and not really me (I'm more of a doer not a talk-about-doing doer). And so I stepped in to the commitment, not realizing what I… Continue

Timing is Everything

Since starting this challenge, life has felt more intuitive and synchronicitous. I find myself randomly running in to friends during the day. One morning on my way to work, I was crossing a pretty major downtown street in the middle of traffic and walked right in front of a guy I knew sitting in his car waiting for the light to change. We were both surprised. It took me out of my normal routine for a second. We smiled at each other and waved, that was it. It was strange and cool and just felt… Continue

Thanks for your comments on the indigo bunting. It had rammed into our storm door and was unconscious. Paul and I were able to give it Reiki. It stayed in our yard all summer. I took the pictures of him on the steps, but the picture of the bird in the tree is from a picture I found online. If you are interested I blogged about this http://givingchallenge.ning.com/profiles/blogs/day-24-round-8. The story and the pictures are about half way through the blog. I didn't even know what kind of bird this was until the next day a friend sent me an email identifying the bird for me

Thanks for stopping by my blog this morning. I've learned a lot through tracking my receives. It's amazing how they're often closely tied to giving. At times I've wondered which category something should fall into. Many gifts bless me more than the receiver and many receives bless the giver as much as they do me. Have an AMAZING day!!!
