Round 1-day 5-7

My fifth day, the day before yesterday, I ended up giving nothing. Instead of feeling bad about it regarding it a failure I decided I would simply accept the fact that today I had other things om my mind. Tomorrow is a new day that surely will present itself with many opportunities to give. So in that sense I end up giving to myself, not judging myself for not being perfect.Yesterday instead, my sixth day, I gave more concrete gifts. In the afternoon I had three friends visiting at my new…See More

Round 1-day 3 and 4: gifts inspired by the moment

This semester I study in Gothemburg, Sweden's second largest city which remain ca 150 km from my home town. I study the Italian language, something I am really passionate about. Today I had my first exam and I beleive I did fine. =) Since the exam would start early in the morning today, I went to spend last night at my sister's who lives in Gothemburg. We spent a nice sisters' night together going to the movies. Since I am very short of money this period she was sweet enough to buy me the…See More

Round 1-day 1: A fresh new start

Here I am again, making a new try to complete my first 29 days of giving round. My dear friend Sara, who is a big fan of this community, has for long  spoken warmly of all the joy this journey brings. She has also lended me the book "29 Gifts" and I aim to finish it as soon as possible. Now I feel ready to make a fresh new start with my journey of giving. To celebrate my new motivation, I decided to give my first gift to myself. The last few months I have gradually felt my physical health is not…See More

Day 1: the gift of hospitality

My first gift is the one of hospitality for my good friend Sara who urgently needed a place to stay for some time. When she called me last Saturday to ask if she could possibly stay with me for some days I immidiately said yes. I live in a small student's apartment and there is really not much space for two persons, but it is actually working out good. It is a pleasure to me to have such a nice guest as my friend Sara around, who is a really tidy, respectful and also a very helpful person. Her staying here is turning out to be not only a gift from me to her but also a gift to myself since she is helping me out a lot too. Lately, I have had a very tough period when I have been feeling very down but Sara's presence is helping me to feel calmer and to cheer up with her positive attitude and great energy. She is also offering her good help with practical things I need to get done, like improving the presentation of my CV and learning how to use the sewing machine I inherited from my granny. So I feel very blessed to be able to give and to receive so much in return.

Round 1-day 3: A phone call and an invitation

Posted on October 11, 2011 at 12:26pm 2 Comments

Today's gift was that I took the time to call a friend whom I had not talked to for some time. My friend is a lady in her 60's. She lives with her 16 years old daughter and a dog. We actually made friends because of the dog that I fell in love with at first instant. It is the sweetest shetland sheep dog, very affectionate. Unfortunately my friend has some health issues so she cannot take the dog out for long walks. Sometimes I take the dog out since both of us enjoy to stroll around in the…

Round 1-day 2: the gift of appreciation

Posted on October 10, 2011 at 12:53pm 3 Comments

This morning I ran into an old friend of mine who I had not talked to in a while. We occasionally met in the train station and did some catching up on the train. My friend told me she had started an internship as a lawyer at a bank which would later lead to a regular job. She is only 23 years old and she has already completed a master in business law and a bachelor degree of economics. I couldn't help to feel a little envious of her great drive and the good opportunities that are facing her…
