I believe in you - you have a story and you are strong -- on the inside... in you guts and you cells. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

Nice gifts to start a new cycle. I need to go and see my grandmother. This made me miss the other ones that I had.

Gearing up for giving cycle 2

Prior to my first cycle of giving, I underwent neuropsychological testing at the recommendation of my counselor at Rehab services. It was an unpleasant, drawn out process, not unlike many I have taken before, and I knew how it was going to go, and I almost was certain of what the report was going to say. I know how certain professionals view me. I can be a difficult person to understand for reasons that I, myself, do not understand. For me, I work hard, I give as much as I can, I try to stay…See More

Thanks. I love this community where we all can be real about life. It inspires me to let out my true feelings instead of just thinking about them. Thanks and strength to all! Take care Melissa

Hiatus and Heartbreak

Sometimes all the compliments in the world won't help me. Compliments and positivity aren't always the answer. (for me). All the compassion in the world that I have won't matter if I get burnt out and all that people tell me is oh don't feel that way. Happiness and positivity for me are such hard work and I'm happy to perform the Job of the jolly or whatever. But when my walker is broken, and the floor is slippery, and I tried to be positive and think a friend that doesn't show would show but…See More

Summary

I gave kleenex to a co worker that was blowing his nose with paper towels. I purchased them on my break and kept the receipt. I gave candy to more of my co-workers and the big pac of tic tacs to my little brother. On Christmas, I put the three extra dollars I found in my pocket in the collection plate. I sent my friend a silly picture of me with Crazy hair. I also researched the reuse a shoe program to see where i can donate my used sneakers. Because I am rough on my sneakers, I don't think…See More

Days 14, 15, and 16

On Friday I gave money towards my Grandpa's new tires for his birthday. On Saturday, I bought my brother orange tic tacs, buy one get one free and myself the last container of blueberries. Today I donated my old phone, taking the battery out thus eliminating the problem I was afraid of before. I believe by focusing giving one thing I don't feel the need to give everything I have to everyone all the time. I'm not exhausting myself by giving to make up for all of those who don't give. (I used…See More

Day 11 and 12 (or 13?)

First of all, thanks all of you for your responses! It's funny, but I kind of am less intense about working out because I am just happy to be where I am and be free of pain after wearing a boot or an air cast. I'm feeling less pain about where I am versus where I used to be. I know eventually I'll get back into it.Yesterday I ordered some snacks for a friend of my brother's for a Christmas surprise. I thought it would make him happy. Also, the other day I wrote a note to my friend of many…See More

Don't be so hard on yourself... It's tuff to beat a mom in her kitchen. I am 49 and my daughter is a 16 year old varsity track runner and had the same thing occured no doubt I would have beat her to the milk. (Did you ever what Gremlins…

Effort counts. That you're thinking about giving counts. Remember to be gentle with yourself. Your heart's in the right place, as they say :) So make a give to yourself, and be gentle to yourself.

I think I know what you mean about second guessing as to whether you could have done more or worked harder. Sometimes I feel like a bit of a fraud or a cheater. I work to fight that feeling, though, by telling myself I'm doing the best I can…

Profile Information

Why I'm choosing to give:
Giving makes me forget that I have a disability. I don't like to think about what I can do because all of a sudden it snowballs and I am just thinking negatively for longer than I would like to. Although I have cerebral palsy, I also have many gifts.
What I'd most like to receive:
a clearer vision of a path that I am supposed to be on
How did you hear about the 29-Day Giving Challenge?
Amazon.com recommended the book to me
About me:
I'm getting in touch with my spiritual self after trying and failing to find my professional self. I'm 26, I have mild cerebral palsy, and I use a walker in order to work as a cashier in a grocery store.

Day 2 of Cycle 2-

Posted on March 15, 2010 at 5:56pm 0 Comments

Today I ordered my friend a birthday gift online. Not very creative, but sometimes due to scheduling conflicts I don't see her for a while and then the gift sits there, reminding me. This way, she will know that I remembered her actual day and that I was thinking of her, even if I don't see her for a while.

Today I gave away my shift to spend time with my Grandma, so I gave the person that needed the shift some extra money and I gave my Grandma the gift of time and let me tell you, that was more fulfilling than ringing up groceries can be sometimes. :-D

Hey, you're the same age as me ... and I did student teaching too (in a second grade class) ... it went fine for me, but I didn't go into teaching .... well, not at a school anyway. I have a daycare in my home.
Can't imagine living with the physical struggles you do, but I'm sure you can still give a lot to this world.

The trick is in what one emphasizes. We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves happy. The amount of work is the same. ~ C.C.
