You have done some wonderful gives, and so thoughtful of your Mom. Sounds like she has a huge heart, too!! Have a great and happy weekend, Michelle.

02/18/10 Round 1

Last night I chose not to log on to my PC because that would have meant not only posting my blog but spending time seeing my facebook account and my email, and I really needed to go to sleep no later than midnight.Yesterday, after getting my mammogram, I bought a glass butterfly necklace for my mom at the hospital store. We had seen them when she came with me earlier this week and she had liked them. She had spent the whole day cleaning her house and looked exhausted to the max but when she saw…See More

Hi Michelle, remember, the giving process is not always about huge big gifts but also about the simplest of things such as the sharing of a kind word and a smile, these are the thinngs that are so important. Bless you lass Willie

Day 10 Round 1 (2/10/10)

Wow! This feels like it's now starting to go by real fast, and I also feel like I'm just giving minimally! Today I did not give much except that I really took the time to translate a song into Spanish for a friend whose father passed away recently. Oh, and I also put away dishes in the kitchen even if they weren't mine. I also tried to give back a little bit on this website by giving some comments and gifts to new people and older friends.

Hi there, it sounds like you are being a bit hard on yourself when you have in fact been under a lot of pressure and lack of good sleep...take it easy and be good to you! And my way of giving sometimes when I can't buy or give something…

Oh, and I also gave a tip even though I had food to go. I wasn't going to leave it but then changed my mind and went back in to give it to the waitress since the homeless lady outside whom I was going to give it to had already left.

Why I'm choosing to give:
I've always enjoyed giving and have been taught by my mother to give without asking for anything back - have grown up seeing her do it, so I guess this is an official way of doing what I already do. Also because I'm feeling depressed right now and think it will help me feel better in general.
What I'd most like to receive:
Am open for surprises and the positive things life has to offer. But when I think about what I truly want in my life right now, it is the inner strength and motivation to have a healthy relationship, financial stability and a career I love. Want to learn to make my dreams a reality.
How did you hear about the 29-Day Giving Challenge?
Through a friend
About me:
Passionate about music and dance, travel and foreign films. Grew up in South America which is where my heart lies.

Day 17 Round 1 (02/17/10)

Hi 29ers! Feeling good today and am grateful for that! Did have some moments of anxiety but those were just temporary and was still able to see many positive things in my life. Today I picked up my niece from Bart (subway train here in the SF Bay Area) and gave her a ride to where she needed to go; this helped her and also my mom who was going to give her the ride but had something else to do. Then I went to buy a little Peruvian flag I knew my sister wanted for her car and gave it to her… Continue

Day 16 Round 1 (02/16/10)

The walk I took with mom yesterday totally changed her mood and she had an extremely positive day today so that is such a gift to me, to hear she is doing so much better and is so much more motivated today. Today I bought a little ceramic bird to give to a friend of my sisters who recently told me he was mourning the loss of one of his birds a year ago and who was also sad because his current birds almost died a few days ago and because he also lost his uncle. In the midst of his pain, he still… Continue

Day 15 Round 1 (02/15/10)

Posted on February 15, 2010 at 11:17pm 2 Comments

Today was a day of mixed emotions because I made the decision to break off the relationship I was in. I still decided to enjoy the sun and get out to nature because I knew this would be very healing for me. I was going to go with some friends but when I went to visit my mom and saw how sad and unmotivated she was (she's been going through some major life changing events in the past 2 months), I decided to invite her. We had a great time and she loved it. Her mood changed completely and lasted… Continue

Each day we face doors that open and close. Sometimes we don't know why they do, but we learn to trust it is where we are to go. In the same way relationships come and go trust in yourself.

It sounds like many of us doing this challenge are searching for happiness. I guess we hope to find it by providing it for others. When I told my doctor in December that I was feeling depressed, the two things he told me that would help were: to get aerobic exercise and to give to others. He said volunteering or giving to others was a sure way to help with depression. I hope he is right....and I think he is!
