"I saw this site a looooong time ago. Thanks for bringing it back up! I downloaded the toolbar and played the cool games (geography, vocabulary, grammar) and I donated 60,000 grains today. That equates to over 2 lbs of rice! Very cool."

Day 23-24

Day 23

The students began brainstorming their GIVE projects today. The kids and I went to freerice.com and played a few rounds while donating. After school, I gave some pizza slices and pop to the two hard workers who came to do homework.

Day 24

The students are really excited. They came up with lots of great ideas. The afternoon group came in eager to share how many "grains of rice" they managed to donate last night. I can;'t wait for them to share in writing.

Day 22 DID I really GIVE?

Day22

This one was hard. I don't know if I actually GAVE or not. In the AM, I drove our guest to the train station...but it was on my way. Instead of teaching on Monday, I had been sent to a workshop on brain functions and organization to see if we want incorporate the practices into our Team structure...I had volunteered for it in the fall, so it didn't seem very altruistic. I did take notes for everyone so that the team will feel as if they have enough info to make an educated… Continue

Day 20 in more detail

Well the Brain Tumor Walk-a-thon was really cool~my good friend Jill and her family met the kids and I out at Montrose Harbor early on Saturday AM. Although sunny, the temps had dropped over 40 degrees since the day before, so the spring walk we had planned upon turned into a blustery and brisk walk. We all had a great time. I hope this was only the beginning.

Later I picked up a friend who has been having a hard time and had the opportunity to talk with… Continue

Days 9-20 Time for blogging is the biggest challenge

Posted on April 25, 2008 at 10:47pm 1 Comment

Although some days of giving are easier than others, I am finding it most difficult to sit down to reflect. This is frustrating me some, because I think the reflection component is key. This set will be condensed. Who knows...maybe I need a lesson in being more concise. I'm sure those who know me are nodding their heads.

Reflection on Day 8

I realized really the biggest give was a "family dinner " for my kids. T and I don't always see eye-to-eye, but it was nice to just hang all… Continue

Day 9--Smile

Posted on April 13, 2008 at 9:10pm 0 Comments

I was exhausted today...just a ginormous couch potato. Chloe and I finally managed to peel ourselves up and go over to her Dad's house to pick up her brother Quinn. On our way, I went to get "thank you" cards from Ten Thousand Villages--a non-profit place that supports crafts people from the around the world. I thought I would hand write all of my thank you notes to participants and volunteers of the Eco Fair. The store was closed though. So the notes went on hold for the the next day or… Continue

Hi Mimi! I'm Gianna Jasinski and I'm 13. I'm new to the site and a woman referred me to your discussion page about involving kids! I love the idea, since I'm doing a similar project. I was inspired by Cami in oct. and I wanted to do a challenge for kids. So, I contacted 3 middle schools, over 100 kids, and some have taken the challenge, while some are finishing up. Currently, I'm writing a short book on their experiences, and how the challenge affected them. Maybe we could work together to discuss ideas, I'd love to hear how the challenge went with your kids! Do you have any stories that really striked you, that I could use in my book. I have talked to Cami about this and my book will eventually be posted on her website. Again, I'd love to hear from you! Thanks, Gianna

Hi, Mimi. I took the challenge up in November and whilst I have lost focus at times and not given with full awareness I am still with it. I’m on a bit of a “mission” now and I'm exploring the site looking at other people’s experiences. You did some amazing things and I liked the way you got so many young people involved. I’m sure that I’m not the only one who’d like to hear how things are going now.

Hi Mimi, I am also a school teacher- but because I am just a subject teacher (English), I am thinking of ways to incorporate the 29 days into my classes. Any ideas?

Over the last few days, I have been running around like the proverbial headless chicken. I am organizing an Eco-Fair in which the Environmental Club students will get to show off all the work they have done over year. They are trying to raise awareness in the school and community. It's a great opportunity for them to teach others. Here's my question, and it may seem silly, but...if I was already organizing this...does it still count in "the daily give?"
