Remembering your worth

Posted on November 27, 2008 at 6:03am 1 Comment

Thanksgiving naturally lends itself to discussion of gratitude. People publish lists of all the things, experiences, people, etc. they are thankful for but often do not acknowledge on a day-to-day basis. Since this challenge is about giving something away each day, I would like to remind anyone reading this that your presence here in this place and time provides a gift to the Universe that would remain ungiven without you. Admittedly it doesn't always feel like it to me, but I honestly believe… Continue

Sharing Inspiration

I'm constantly amazed by how quickly time passes. Three more days of this lovely challenge have passed without me writing about my experiences. I have been living the challenge and enjoying it. Many of my gifts have revolved around themes of letting my loved ones know how much they mean to me, offering kindness and well wishes to others, and doing small acts of caregiving and support. Some of the things I would have done in the course of a normal day and others, as I said in my previous post, I… Continue

Catching Up

Today is my day 5 and I must catch up since I haven't written yet about days 2-4. My gives on those days have included giving "thank you" notes to neighbors and friends who so generously sent me condolences for the recent loss of my beloved dog of 14 years, reaching out to someone I haven't spoken to in a long time who I heard was in a difficult situation, and donating blood to the American Red Cross. Somehow the days feel lighter when I am focusing on how I can give to others. Some of the… Continue

The First Give

Posted on November 20, 2008 at 6:11am 1 Comment

Yesterday was my first day of participating in this fabulous 29-Day Giving Challenge. I did not give anything extraordinary, yet as I mentioned in my previous post, I know that is not the purpose of this project. My neighbors are senior citizens with quite a few health concerns. Yesterday was trash day and I made sure to listen for the trash collection so I could bring my neighbors's bins back for them. I also helped prepare a dinner that I wasn't going to partake in, which for me as a non-cook… Continue

Big and small

Posted on November 19, 2008 at 6:59am 5 Comments

The first post. It feels rather momentous, as if I must write something compelling and insightful. Quite similar to how I feel taking on this giving challenge. I'm pulled in the direction of thinking big and trying to come up with grandiose gestures, which I intellectually understand is not in any way the objective of this project. Maybe it is my way of downplaying the ways I already give, but haven't noticed until I learned about the challenge 2 days ago. The little things I do somehow don't… Continue
