This week my gifts have been fairly simple and straighforward. A homeless man with his hand out on the corner received all the cash I had at the time, two of my daughter's high school buddies received a free dinner when I was in their college town, and I made several donations to the ChiO mom's weekend auction to raise money for Make-a-Wish. I have been looking forward to yesterday's gift for awhile. Fat Tuesday I invited some girlfriends to meet downtown for our city's very first Mardi Gras parade - a gift of social activity that so many of us shun (or at least I have this winter!) Today was my sister's surgery. She did exceptionally well - at least so far! No colostomy bag, no NG tube. Large incision, turmor contained but final word on lymph nodes Tuesday. She shared text messages with me last night and said she wished she could wake up and be in a tropical climate, on a beach somewhere and have little umbrellas in her cups of ice she will be restricted to for the next week. - Why I'm choosing to give:
- My daughter, Channing, was diagnosed with MS at 16 and has inspired me with her spirited approach to living with MS and continuing to live her dreams. She recently jumped into the 29-Day Challenge and I witnessed the increased state of gratitude and peace she experienced. While I have always considered myself a "giving" person, the purposeful message and giving from scarcity philosophy is different. Just finished the book tonight and look forward to starting February 1!!
- What I'd most like to receive:
- Peace and a heightened sense of living in a state of gratitude.
- How did you hear about the 29-Day Giving Challenge?
- Initially at the National MS Society Conference in Chicago where I heard Cami speak. .
- About me:
- Four years ago, I knew few, if any, people with MS. Now, I am the mom of a vibrant young woman with MS, and I have become very involved in the National MS Society's Oklahoma chapter as a volunteer, advocate and advisory board member. My daughter has become an ambassador and speaker for the national organization as well. Our family, which includes me and my two daughters, have tried to live an unselfish life giving to others, but 29 Gifts opened my eyes to a different way to view giving as well as receiving.

I live across the street from a lovely but unusual couple. He is an absolute perfectionist, creative beyond imagination, and quiet as a mouse. He is a hairdresser by occupation, resembles Santa Claus (if he lived in a fishing village), as well as an amateur woodworker, landscape architect and master gardner.
