This is such a good give to yourself, to learn to break tasks down into manageable and achievable bits and reward yourself for what you achieve rather then 'punish' yourself over what didn't get done! Bravo! ~peace and joy~

Sad, but still giving

On Sunday we learned that our good friend Andy, my goddaughter's father, who has been fighting a really fast and nasty lymphoma with everything in the book and some things that are not, has had a major recurrence of tumors in a new location. This was after 12 very positive weeks following a stem cells transplant. We are all devastated and I am feeling so helpless being on the other side of the world. So I have been sending energy and emails to the family and especially to my almost 14 year old g… Continue

JOYful give (even more than usual)

Today when I logged into facebook I had a friend suggestion that made my heart sing -- a lovely woman who was part of my wedding party (and vice-versa) is finally joining the cyber-century! Her husband and I have been fb friends for about a year and he passes on messages to her, but it's not the same as being able to communicate directly. Because she uses a computer all day at work, and is working on a masters, she hasn't even been doing email at home, so to know I can now leave her little messa… Continue

turning a chore into a gift and avoiding a snit

Some of you know that Steve does most of the cooking in our house. He's good at it, and he loves experimenting in the kitchen. I'm a pretty good cook, but I don't enjoy it on a daily basis, so I am very lucky that he does. Tuesday I usually go to a yoga class and snack when I get home, Steve eats on his own. Tonight I skipped yoga for several reasons, including not wanting to walk 2km in sub-zero temps (we're having an arctic freeze at the moment) so I was home when he got in. He said "I think I… Continue

giving full attention

This week has been an odd one, and nothing much has gone according to plan. Nonetheless, i was able to stick to my intention of giving my full attention to the person/people/project in front of me. It hasn't been easy, mind you, to be mindful every day. and I have certainly slipped more than twice, but it has been a very good experience to focus only on what is in front of me in each moment.
I think our full attention is something we rarely give these days, but it is so precious. Think of the la… Continue

letting go

Today I am giving myself a difficult gift. It is the gift of letting go. I have been feeling blue all week. At first I thought it was just the effect of the terrible disaster in Haiti, I tend to empathize (perhaps too strongly) when natural disasters strike, having lived through a few devastating tornadoes as a child. However today I realized (admitted?) that a big part of my feeling blue is coming from somewhere else entirely.

I move a lot, and I really try to keep in touch with the good frien… Continue

Paula, I tried to say congratulations in your email and it threatened not to send the message to you. I had to take out that word or it might be considered spam. Now I will say Congratulations.
Last email it would not let me say amazing. Andy is filled with amazing peace. So I said it here.

Paula,
Thanks for your well wishes. I apparently have had this for a while and thought I was being whiny and just plain lazy sometimes. I am feeling better already and now Trina and Paul are worried that I will do too much too soon. But I promise to take care of myself and gradually build up my strength.

Thank you for the validation. Sometimes I feel like that's cheating because it's my adult children...they are so easy to give to. The joy was there acceptance. Have a great day!
