The Paradox of Our Age

We have bigger homes, but smaller families;

more conveniences, but less time;

we have more degrees, but less sense;

more knowledge, but less judgement;

more experts, but more problems;

more mediciines, but less healthiness;

We've been all the way to the moon and back,

but have trouble crossing the street to greet the new neighbor;

We built more computers to hold more

information to produce more copies than ever;

but have less communication;

We have become long on quanitity,

but short… Continue

A duh moment

While watching (again) the video on my page titled "Grand Master Mamady Keita II", I realised that the djembe player on the left is Bankoure Ke, who held a drum workshop I attended a few weeks ago.

He has a very relaxed intensity about him, as do the other West African artists I have met since I started drumming to the rhythm of life.

The Parachute

By: Author Unknown

Charles Plumb was a Navy jet pilot. On his seventy-sixth combat mission, he was shot down and parachuted into enemy territory. He was captured and spent six years in prison. He survived and now lectures on the lessons he learned from his experiences.

One day, a man approached Plumb and his wife in a restaurant. He said, "Are you Plumb, the Navy pilot?"

"Yes, how did you know?" asked Plumb.

"I packed your parachute," the man replied.

Plumb was amazed - and grateful: "If th… Continue

Honest work

In the final analysis there is no solution to man's progress but the
day's honest work, the day's honest decisions, the day's generous
utterances and the day's good deed.

Dear Peter - so far, so good. my goal this year is to stay open to the opportunities and experiences that present themselves to me, whether or not they fit into my "plans". i wasted a lot of last year sulking because things didn't work out like i wanted. as John Lennon said, "life is what happens while you're busy making other plans." Or something to that effect. what about you? will you be running again this year? i haven't heard anything about that for awhile. be blessed! Hugs, Dawn

It was a pretty good day. When I got to school this morning, I decided that I would smile at and say hi to every custodian, lunch lady, and administrator that I saw. For the most part, I was very successful. I could see that they were happy to be no…

One of the lessons I think is key from the book is the idea that the gifts don't have to be huge. Small gifts can work too. I was very tired today, and didn't have time/energy to plan or come up with a gift that required much effort or thought. It s…

When I woke up this morning, the buzz from yesterday's events had worn off. I was tired and cranky and in no mood to give. My poor dog didn't even get her daily walk. On the way to work, at 1pm I still hadn't given much thought to my second gift. I…
